today was the final day on cox handling email, at this point I've spent 4 hours trying to get my former cox emails that are no on yahoo to work

If you are using a third-party email program you will need to configure the settings for the Yahoo Emai servers: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/fix-pop-imap-client-sending-receiving-issues-sln3792.html I hope this information is useful.
