Does accessing Netflix through Contour use up our internet download allocation?

Last evening we had an internet outage in our area as we were told by Cox. We lost not only our phone but use of our Roku. We recently added Netflix to Contour but it also seemed not to work so I was wondering if Cox was providing Netlix through the internet rather than cable?

We had other cable problems as well. The DVR quit recording about the same time the internet went down. We could still get live TV but lost recordings of the college football playoffs.

So, if we access Netflix via cable, is it actually using up our internet download allocation? It certainly seems so.

    Bastbob,

Here's a link with more information on the Netflix app via Contour. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

  • Looks like it does use your data, another way to run you over so they can charge you more. I can't understand why they just can't give a simple yes or no. And while I am venting their website is the hardest to understand. I want answers to questions for someone who has been a customer for years, not the ones geared to new subscribers. I want the cost upfront what things will cost me now that I have been paying for years.

Accessing Netflix via your Cox Contour 2 *DEFinitely* requires using data from your monthly allotment. If you already have a Roku hooked up to a TV, based on past personal experience I would recommend using it, and not Cox Contour 2, to view Netflix.

For reference, see my post here in the TV forum about how lethargic Netflix-on-Contour is: http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/tv_forum/f/4/t/19583.aspx

Yeah, if you blow your nose Cocks charges you. You better believe that ANYTHING you do on their internet service counts toward that data use. They have to find a way to make more $$$ since everyone is cord cutting!
