I did qualify my post as a preference. Just because both programs are McAfee, it doesn't mean they're the same program. I would not want McAfee deciding what stays on my drive or which programs to remove or what remains in the Registry. I decide.
I understand, the mcafee program references the registry to find the program's uninstaller, and uses the uninstaller specific to the security program being removed, to properly uninstall it. The Cox Security suite doesn't actually remove or uninstall other programs, it uses that program's specific uninstaller to perform that task.
Why would I want McAfee to remove my Norton program?
You are failing to comprehend what I have said. Mcafee doesn't remove it, it runs the NORTON uninstaller to remove it. The Norton uninstaller, as well as every other security software out there, has the uninstaller pointed to by it's registry entries. Mcafee looks it up, and run the uninstaller specifically pointed to by the registry. It cannot uninstall norton, avg, trend micro, and the dozens of other security software programs out there, it runs the software's associated uninstaller that on the computer, the SAME uninstaller you would run if you went to add/remove programs and clicked on "uninstall".
Is McAfee initiating the uninstaller? Yes. Again, why would I want McAfee to initiate uninstalling my security software?
