pornhub block in VA
Interesting story but I don't think is relevant to OP's issue. There are many different reasons to use a VPN. Privacy/security is one. Getting around video blackouts and content sharing(Netflix) is another. Last, it can help with connecting to your home network when away to access your cameras or other remote systems.
It may help with privacy, but is really useless for security. Using it to get around video blackouts, can actually cause more video blackouts, because as soon as these companies determine that a vpn is being used for that purpose the entire ip block the vpn uses will get blocked. Trust me, the entry do accomplish that takes a few minutes, look up the ip address, see the entire block size allocated to site, look the site up in all the rest if the sites used to determine ip blocks, and then block ALL of them in one sitting.

Who are "these companies" and how would these companies determine an IP address is trying to "get around video blackouts"?
