Packetloss: PLEASE HELP
Am i interpretting these ping plotter graphs wrong or does cox not have insanely high packetloss on their network? I have been living in internet hell and trying to prove it. I am hardwired in on their fiber network but have 100 ping when playing video games and experiencing packetloss. they keep blaming the games and my devices even though its 100% their network please help...

Ok, so first of all, a PING is the lowest form of communication. It's ok to use to see if you are getting somewhere, but it's not nearly as useful in troubleshooting problems. The reason is, BECAUSE it's the lowest form of communication, it's the one that routers pay the least amount of attention to. The routers handle all of their priority communications first, THEN respond to ping requests.
That being said, your pings on the Cox network, appear to be less than 20ms, (That's 20 thousandths of a second), but the LAST one to google was 160 ms. (A little faster than 1/5th of a second). Not nearly as fast as Cox's routers, but still, not a long wait.
Again, remember, Google's response take place after it's priority data.
Another thing to remember, once your data leaves Cox's network, and reaches the internet proper, Cox has no bearing on the route it takes, and depending on the router, and the amount of internet traffic, as well as however busy the game server is, it can take a toll on gaming. Find out if your game has other servers you can connect to.

using wireshark as well to track the packets and its showing overall 2% loss. I am guess its from these shown in black with red text which are cox ip addresses. The ping to the server (ie ping test) is 30 but when i play the game my ping is 100... with up to 100+ping spikes and up to 30% inbound packetloss spikes. idk what to do. any help here is appreciated.

Hi,
based on the original Ping plotter, we see some packet loss on the 2nd hop. this indicates there may be an issue either at or close to your home. If you have a coax connection to a standard modem, please check the coax connections to make sure they are tight and secure. If you have an ONT with a fiber optic connection, there is not really anything that I can recommend you check. I would like to take a look at the signals with our testing tools. When you have the opportunity please email us at cox.help@cox.com Please be sure to include your name full street address and a link to your forum post.

Is it all games or just one? If one, which one? I tried tracing to one of the google IP you traced to and got the same latency spike on the last hop. I am on Frontier fiber in CT so I don't think it's a Cox issue.
The resolution is too small to see the wireshark data. Could you upload it to Imgur instead?
Also, does the problem happen if you connect direct to the fiber ONT?
