RE: Port sniffing attacks

My experience has been that cox service levels have dropped dramatically over the last month.  My call to tech support resulted in that tech support person condemning my modem AND my router.  Modem was supplied by them when I signed up in 2006, and the router is a stable Linksys model.  But, in the belief that they were on top of their antiquities, I went out and, based on their recommendation, bought a Motorola surfboard - combination modem / router.

Having installed, and calling them to change the settings on their end to accept the unit, I see no improvement in either speed or consistency.

I can no longer stream video to ipad or to smart TV!

Third call on same problem resulted in a recommendation to upgrade my internet package to a more expensive connection!  Like this is going to resolve the intermittent service problem ......

It's beginning to feel like their CSR reps were trained by Comcast!

I did look and see a few things going on from this end.  One being the modem is reporting unacceptably low transmit signal levels when I poll it from this end which may explain the intermittent service you're seeing.  This may very well require a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.  Should that be fixed however the level of Internet service you're currently setup for isn't ideal for much video streaming.  Upgrading your plan would help with that but I would get the existing problems fixed first.
