I recently upgraded my modem. I called COX to see what to do with my old modem. After being connected to an AI agent, I requested a "real person" and was transferred to a "live agent" that I'm pretty sure was another AI agent. I was instructed to return my old modem by a certain date (8/9) or I would be charged for the unit. I was given three addresses that were supposed to be COX stores here in town, but they were obviously two casinos and the city's town hall (live in the Vegas area). I searched Google for the closest COX store. After leaving work and driving through traffic, losing 1.5 hours of my evening, the store staff told me that I owned the modem and did not need to return it. Thank you so much COX for your crappy support and wasting a good portion of my gas and evening in traffic. Rest assured when a fiber line from another vendor becomes available in my area, I will be jumping ship. Oh and thanks for all the outages :)

Their customer support is awful. I don't want to risk being rude to actual people, but I am also pretty sure they are AI even though I asked and they assured me they weren't. The agent was definitely following a word-for-word script if not AI, and was glitching on words and cutting me off. They also said I had to share my full SSN to get a new promo deal, which felt sketchy. I hung up and the next agent did not ask for it. I also want to switch to a local provider but it's currently only available up to 3 blocks from where I live. So close! I am really disappointed in Cox for trying to push (aggressively) marketing deals and amp up prices and then offer really bad customer service for those who do push back.
