disconnecting

Modem disconnects whenever it requires a constant connection to a server, such as streaming movies or playing video games.  It does this on wired and wireless.

The modem is a Motorola SBG6580.

Could you try visiting http://192.168.100.1 and posting the signal status results here?  Perhaps there are some clues there as to what could be going on.

Nothing looks particularly unusual with those numbers.  It could be a possible modem or router issue however with them being a single device it'll be difficult to diagnose that possibility without dispatching a technician to troubleshoot further.  Have you tried this from different devices in your home to see if it's limited to just one or a few?

We've had the same issue occur on two different laptops and a smart phone.  The modem will just randomly disconnect and reconnect when we're streaming movies and playing video games.

The SBG6580 is a modem and router combination and I've already tried the wired connection.  There's also no cable splitters currently being used and I've tried two different cable coaxial wall sockets.  I read in a different forum that it could possibly be an issue with the modem's firmware.  Is there a way for you to test this out or do I need to call in for support?

Ok well the problem persists on all activities that require a constant connection to a server such as streaming, video games, or messaging.  We've already upgraded once with Cox for a higher speed connection because the last person we talked to suggested that as a fix.  We currently have the Cox High Speed Internet Essential for our service and we used to have the basic internet package.

Like I just said, we have the Cox High Speed Internet Essential.  That should give us 5 Mbps.  I'll even run a speed test right now to check... Well look at that, 5.45 Mbps.  I highly doubt this issue is related to our speed.  We've had two different internet packages with Cox, both with different speeds, and had the same problem with both speeds.  Can you please stop guessing what might be wrong and refer me to a support outlet that will help?

We've been having this issue for about 9 months, which is how long we've had Cox as our ISP.  Yes I have tried one device wired to the modem and had the issue occur.  At most we have one laptop and one smart phone connected to the wireless, but never more than that.

The lights on the modem go out, then it reconnects in about a minute.
