WIFI AND HOTSPOT ISSUES
6/28/24 I recieved a text from cox at 2:40pm "Cox: We're experiencing an outage in your area, and working quickly to resolve. You should be reconnected by 05:10PM. We'll send regular text updates. Thanks for your patience, and we're sorry for the inconvenience." And another at 5:11pm "We're still working to get your service back online, unfortunately it's taking longer than expected. You should now be reconnected by 09:10PM, but we'll continue to text updates as they're available." And 30 minutes later"Cox: The outage in your area is resolved, but it appears one of your devices is having trouble connecting." BEFORE this "outage" I had 0 issues with my service and 0 issues with the CoxWifi hitspots. EVERYTHING was working perfectly After this "Outage" I still havent been able to connect to my internet or a hot spot for that matter. I was on the chat support with COX from 7pm - 3am and today 7pm -11pm trying to figure you the issues. They said they were unable to connect to my modem all of the sudden. and they can only fix it if I agree to have a tech come out which would cost $75. I said it was working just fine what could have changed and that I don't want another tech to come out because the last tech who came out didnt do anything literally but I got changed $100 they said my modem could me to old and I might need a new one. I said it less then 2 months old you guys sent me. I still declined the tech , and asked why is it that I still cant connect to the hotspots. They said I troubleshooted your modem we cannot connect to it I'll schedule you a tech, I again said no thank you. They ended the chat. My Neighbors have the same issue and same with my friend who live across the street. Cox chat us a joke. I've only had service for 2 months this is ridiculous. No answers to why i get "" cant obtain ip address" when trying to connect to a hot spot. I'm so frustrated I woke from home and attend online school I kind of need WIFI to do that. What can I do?150Views0likes2CommentsDoes Cox Limit the Number of Devices to Private Home Wi-Fi Router?
We have a cable modem and router (separate units) that we have supplied ourselves (that is, they are not ones we rent from Cox). Does Cox limit the number of devices (e.g. laptop, Macbook Pro, iPhones, iPads, Roku boxes, etc.) that I can connect to the internet through my router? I heard someone mention once that they had an issue with the number of devices that their ISP allowed them to connect to their Wi-Fi router, but I wasn't sure if that was something that Cox did or not.8.9KViews0likes1CommentTurn Off Wireless Radio for Cisco DPQ3925
I want to turn off the (Wi-Fi) Radio in my Cox Cisco DPQ3925 modem/router so that I can use an Apple AirPort time Capsule for all my Wi-Fi connections. I notice there is an option in the Cisco online admin access to "Enable/Disable" the Wireless Interface. Is that how I would turn off the Wi_Fi radio? I have the Cisco Docis 3 modem with wireless router which I use for most of my devices (I have one PC connected via ethernet). I have the Premier internet package. Periodically, I experience erratic wireless connection to the internet - my wireless signal is still strong, but Web browsing freezes. In the past when I called Cox Technical support, they told me to unplug the modem, wait a minute and plug it in again. This fixes the problem. Today, I experienced this problem for the third time (in about six months). I called support and tried the automated support tool - which doesn't seem to understand that I was using the Cisco router for wireless and that my phone was connected via the modem. Eventually, I got to the point where the automated system told me to unplug the modem, which I did, which disconnected my phone connection. Plugging back in did restore my internet connection for my wireless devices (and my phone line). I have some questions about this situation: (1) I now have Cox home security installed at my home. Did disconnecting the Cisco Modem interrupt or cause problems for the security system? If so, what alternative do I have to pulling the power on the modem? (2) The last support rep I talked too said that he thought the Wi-Fi IP addresses had gotten stale and needed to be reset - which the power off/on process does. Is there any way to log onto the modem (I can connect via my ethernet PC) and do the same thing without having to disconnect it? (I used to have a Netgear wireless router which for three years never had this problem - it seems to be a hardware/software issue with the Cox Cisco device that I now have.) I can logon to the Cisco device via the admin account. I was going to buy a new wireless router, but the Cox installation tech explained that I was paying for the Cisco router (with Wi-Fi capability) anyway, and another router was not needed. I'd like to make this system more reliable. David4.1KViews0likes6CommentsLaptops over Wi-fi take long time to establish internet connection
This issue has been ongoing for as long as I've had my cox service, and I've even moved to a new location but it persists. It may be related to my Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 modem/router which I've had since day one. The issue: When I boot or wake a laptop that connects via wi-fi, it can take several minutes, sometimes 10-20, before internet access is functional. During this time my phone works fine via wi-fi and my PC on the Ethernet works fine. My phone has no delays establishing a connection, it just seems to affect laptops. Also, if I try refreshing the browser when internet access begins to return, some sites will only load partially (no images) and some websites will load fully while others will be inaccessible. This lasts for about a minute before everything finally is normal. I'd like to resolve this ASAP. We have people bringing laptops over this weekend for Fantasy Football drafting! I can check any settings or run tests after work today. Thanks!2.1KViews0likes2Comments
