What has happened to NOMOROBO?
I have used Nomorobo for years without a hitch. Now just this week it does not work. When I go to phone settings and click on Nomorobo ON it just reverts back to OFF. I'm being driven mad by calls beginning around 6:00 AM every morning. Please Help, --Dennis--1.6KViews0likes4Comments
my "new" phone number recycled too fast?
I just joined Cox this past Friday and have a landline through them now. i received at least 10 calls a day for other people who have had this number! I googled the number and sure enough 2 female names come up as owning the number, in the same city as I. I have tried to tell these bill collectors and offices that they do not live here, it is a new number for me...but no one listens!! I thought they had to wait years to recycle a number? NO ONE has my new number yet except myself and my parents yet it rings and rings for others. what can i do about this? I also get recorded messages from Providence City schools in spanish. And another from a company that gives rides to Dr offices confirming the woman's appointment for Monday! So she must have had the number recently and it is still on filr for them to be confirming it for now.3.1KViews0likes1Comment
VM Prices & Blocked Calls
Hi- I hate that we don't have voice mail on our phone. Is there an additional price to have voice mail? My second question is: I am SUPPOSED to NOT have our phone number listed on anything as well as I have blocked it on the DNC Registry, yet I still come home daily to at least 8 missed calls... all from businesses or telemarketing. If I have to pay additionally every month for my number to be blocked, then I expect not to be getting these types of calls on a daily basis. Where did I go wrong with this ? How to end robocalls
I saw a number of inquiries here expressing frustration with robocalls and political pollsters. Here's my solution which was born out of frustration with the telcos inability to regulate themselves and the FCCs feeble attempts at enforcement. I've always been registered with the DNC registry, but I re-registered all my numbers with the DNC registry and waited the prescribed amount of time just to be sure. Then I started talking to every telemarketer and robocaller who dares to call me. Yes, I actually talk to them. I think of it as taking one for the team. For every second I keep them engaged, I'm saving someone out there from a ringing phone. Rather than be upset, I just let them go through their script while injecting comments and questions to make them think I'm interested. I let them think that they are going to close the deal of a lifetime and hit their quota with a single call. In the end, I make up some excuse like, "hang on, my daughter is calling me". I set the phone down and walk away. My kids know what's up when they see the phone sitting on the kitchen counter with the line still active because they have been properly trained. In other cases I just stop them short after 5 minutes and explain that I was never interested and that they should honor the DNC registry. I've had a car insurance quote get to 4 vehicles before the guy asked me if they were for real... I take a long time to decide if I want to plunk down $89 for a trip to Hawaii, because as much as I want to go there, I need to make sure the accommodations are what I am used to... you get the idea. If it's a political polling organization, I can usually figure out their agenda after a couple questions and then answer completely opposite to what they are trying to "steer" me towards. I have to laugh when they go "off script" to try to sway me and I have to remind them that they are polling me and to go to the next question. And finally, if they get upset with you, just politely let them know they would not have wasted their time if they honored the DNC registry. They can be mad as ***, but the DNC list is really easy for them to access and they have no excuse for not using it. Just imagine if everyone did this? In the end it's a numbers game for the robocallers. They need to hit a lot of numbers in as short amount of time as possible. If they get tripped up on just a few percent of those calls their profit model falls apart and they start looking for a different line of work. So next time your phone rings... There ARE a host of SCAM calls being placed daily, throughout Our United States Of America, and Abroad, from 900 series area codes. When you get a call from one or more, of these 900 series area codes, and you actually answer said call, you will Not hear anyone at the other end of the call which you have answered! You Shall however, hear the distinctive Click, of the phone having been DIS-Connected, (Hung Up). At this point, who ever the SCAM entity actually is, that SCAM entity SHALL, be able to utilize your telephone number, by you having answered said call to begin with, And, the SCAM entity Shall simply forge ahead, with placing an Endless number of International Telephone Calls, which Shall be billed to YOUR very own telephone number, Even Though mind you, those International Telephone Calls, had Not been initiated by you! Another portion of this SCAM, is that Your telephone number, Shall Be, shared with/sold to, many other SCAM entity(s), through the ongoing/endless SCAM net-working, which SHALL increase the amount of International Telephone Calls, which Are Billed to Your telephone number, without mind you, Any End of this type of activity, in the near, mid, and or long term, UN-Less mind you do follow through with one or more of the following. (1) You have your telephone service Changed, and or, DIS-Connected, when you First notice, any such activity with/on your monthly telephone bills. "DO Read Your Monthly Telephone Bills", or, You "SHALL Have" your feet held to the Billing Fire, for ALL of the SCAM calls made against your telephone number, period! (2) Request Of, your telephone service provider, to Actually change your telephone number completely, of which and to which, is almost certainly NOT going to happen, due to the fact, that most all, of the telephone service providers, Shall NOT Normally Do Much, If Anything At All By The Way, without you being Exceptionally FIRM with them to begin with! (3) If you have the time, and willingness to follow through, with actually Tracking, and, To Find Out who the SCAM entity(s) actually are, then there are means presently in place, which Shall bring these SCAM entity(s), to the Righteous Justice, which they ALL are deserving of having placed upon them, Once And For All Time, And, until or course, the next Telephone Number, SCAM net-work gets themselves established somewhere, and then, the whole process of Tracking/Finding Out who these Lame At Best SCAM individual(s) actually are, Starts Again! Did Cox sell my number to telemarketers???
I have had my new number a total of 4 days and I am already receiving telemarketing calls. When I asked where they got my number, they said, "this is a new number, is it not?" Now, there are not many ways that these creeps could already have my number, and the #1 way would be if Cox was selling our numbers to these bothersome companies. So I am on a 30-day trial with Cox...and my experiences so far (cable, phone, and internet) have been subpar. But this may be the straw that broke the camel's back.
