Upgraded to a Panoramic wifi gateway modem, wifi works, voice does not
I had a modem for my Cox services (wifi and voice) for about 5 years. It died and I "upgraded" to a panoramic wifi gateway (model CGM4140COM). The only change was switching out the devices. When I try to use the phone, there is no dial tone. I checked all the physical connections, the cord from the phone to TEL 1 port, the wifiworks, but the voice service with my phone does not work. I can view the missed calls online in my account data though. I reviewed the troubleshooting steps listed online and used the online assistant, to no avail. All, I've had issues with packet loss and dropouts ever since I moved to the area. I never had these issues before at my previous apartment. I will get constant packet loss in games like Rocket League and Apex Legends which heavily are dependent on latency. This is on PS4 and PC. This usually makes the game unplayable. I recently upgraded my gear in trying to narrow down the cause. Everything is hardwired. I went from a Netgear AC1700 and SB6183 to an AC2600 and SB8200 w/gigablast. I was hoping the AC2600 with a better QoS would help... it did marginally but I still get the issues extremely frequently (every time I play).Also many times my upload will barely even hit 10mbps (35mbps advertised). Download can also vary quite a bit as well. Does anybody have any idea of what I can do on my end? I've tried to get Cox to send out a tech but haven't had good luck with that. On a Friday our analog telephone stopped working and we called Tech support the following Monday. They told us that they would send someone out to "fix" our problem. The tech arrived and told us he was sent here because he needed to upgrade our phone line to digital. We weren't notified by Cox of this service interruption and we were really hesitant as our analog line NEVER went out during a storm. Two weeks later that changed and we didn't have any Emergency Access or regular phone access. Unreal how companies think this will improve service and causes their customers to be in more danger. What happens if a storm like Sandy hits our area...all mobile phones will be out in my area and we will be S.O.L. with this forced Digital service. This weekend ( Labor day) we had very poor service. Phone calls were dropped while talking and internet speeds measured by OOkla ranged from 1.78 to >150. most were in the 1.5 to 4.54 range. Does the internet speed affect phone service or are there two different problems. The Phone Call Log shows what time, date, who I called but does NOT TELL ME THE DURATION OF THE PHONE CALLS. SINCE I AM RESTRICTED FOR A HALF HOUR OF CALLS A MONTH, I REALLY NEED TO KNOW THE DURATION. I already had problems being overcharged and if I GO OVER THE HALF HOUR LIMIT A MONTH, THEY CHARGE ME .50 A MINUTE. IT IS NOT FAIR TO THE CUSTOMER SO THEY CAN PROVE THEY WERE NOT OVER THE LIMIT BECAUSE IT PURPOSELY FAILS TO SHOW YOU THE DURATION OF ALL CALLS GOING OUT. I NEED HELP WITH THIS REALLY BAD. I have the cox supplied old SBV-5220. It seem to disconnect during high traffic/usage times. This problem became a real pain when my speed went from 5mbs to 15mbs. It would be great if cox would update this modem to DOCIS 3 before I terminate my service. The only interest to resolve this has been to charge me for a house call. I would suggest a low cost solution: Send me a new one UPS for self install and a return label for me to send the old one back. Feel free to do the right thing. Just lookup my account info via the associated cox email address and "GET -R- DONE".
