Is there an easy way to skip all the channels not subscribed to?
It seems too time consuming to tune into each channel, make a note of those you can't see (wait for the message, click A, then tune next), then go to the guide's "skip list" feature and manually select those you can't tune in. If you search for a program, and it is scheduled on a channel you're not subscribed to, Contour allows you to schedule it (evenfor series), tunes to that channel, then lists it to the "missed recordings". (!?) ThanksSolved8.9KViews0likes9CommentsHiding unsubscribed channels
Good day, all. I won't pretend to be a UI engineer, but from a user perspective I find the guide and on demand menus unfortunate to navigate through. I would like to see an option to "hide unsubscribed channels", rather than a time consuming manual entry of skipped channels or favorites channels. I barely know what channels I have, let alone what I don't have. This would provide me with a concise, uncluttered guide. I'm willing to bet this was a conscious sales/marketing decision not to implement. I would also like to see an option to hide duplicate SD channels. Again providing users with a cleaner, easier to manage guide. On demand is a mess. Same principle. An option to show only the on demand available through subscriptions would be nice.8.7KViews0likes5CommentsRovi Guide "List Channels" forcibly being reset
For a long time, I have used the Rovi Passport Guide so that only the non-skipped channels show in the guide. In the Guide, I would press the "A" button, select the "List Channels", setup a "Custom 1" view, and have that Custom 1 view set to "Use Always". In the new Guide software update, when I just enter the Guide's Title Search menu, then immediately return to the Time Grid, my List Channels setting has been force-reset to "All" instead of the "Custom 1" that I keep setting it to. This was not a problem before the latest Guide software update. Also with the latest Guide software update, the Guide's Title Search lists all the On Demand titles that match my search. I cannot play ANY On Demand titles, even the free ones. The previous Rovi Passport software did not allow me to access the On Demand, and did not list any On Demand titles in the Guide's searches. This was OK because my plan does not allow On Demand viewing. Now I am shown On Demand in the Guide's Title Search with no way to turn off listing the unviewable On Demand titles, except for each time I move onto the listed results, I have to select "TV Listings". There should be a way to always disable the listing of On Demand titles, or to remember that I selected "TV Listings" for the previous list, so it should default to the same "TV Listings" for the next list. My cable box is a Rovi Passport, Motorola DCH3416. Question 1: How do I keep the Guide Time Grid List Channels set to "Custom 1"? Question 2: How can I get the Guide Title Search to default to not showing On Demand titles?7.3KViews0likes6CommentsGet guide to only show favorites?
I have aMotorola CMX3203 (notcontour) and I am wondering if there is a way to show only my subscribed channels. I set all of the channels I get to my favorite list, but now I can't find any way to set the guide so that it only shows favorites. I also tried to do it the other way, byaddingthe other channels to the skipped list. But that didn't seem to solve the problem either. Any way to accomplish this?5.7KViews0likes10CommentsReasons why uVerse WAY better than Cox...
First of all, the general layout of the uVerse "cable box" TV menu system (the User Interface) is far better: 1. On Cox, when using the guide, you can hit the Record button twice to record the series (i.e. once to record the show, twice to record the series). On Cox, there is only ONE place where you can tell it to record a series. On uVerse there are several. This is a common task--it should be easy to do. On uVerse it is! 2. On Cox, Edit Record Options only gives you "Save Until, Start & End" - to access things like "Episodes ['First run only'|'First run & repeats', etc.]" or "Keep[Until]" or "Airtimes", etc. you have to go to the Series Manager and scroll through the list -- in my case, that list is rather long. It's far easier to make changes like this on the uVerse system. 3. We do a lot of "binge watching"--for instance, we recently discovered Dexter and liked it so much we went back and watched all of the previous seasons using OnDemand. On uVerse, when one episode was done, it took us right back to the episode selection screen so we could select and watch the next episode. On Cox, you have to go back to the beginning [i.e. hit the OnDemand button, scroll down to ShowtimeHD and navigate to the next episode--assuming you remember what season/episode # is next! 4. Info! On uVerse, the Info is comprehensive--including the original air date! Very useful when trying to figure out what season and episode # a recording is (would be nice if that was included, like it is in OnDemand!) The Cox Info is rather scant -- even when you select More Info -- and on Cox, quite often there is "No Information". Example: Over the past few months, I've been watching Malcom In The Middle on Amazon. Yesterday, I tried to watch another episode and discovered that (because of "licensing issues") it's no longer available! So, I searched the Cox guide for it, and found it -- BUT, because there is NO information that I can use to determine what episode (or even what season) the recording is (other than a brief synopsis), it's hard to tell if I've seen it before. On uVerse, at least the info gives the original air date, so I can look it up on IMDB or an online episode guide. 5. Rewind on a live show: On uVerse, this is always available (used to be on Cox, too). On uVerse, once you switch to a channel, it starts recording (in the background). Anytime during the broadcast, you can rewind--all the way back to the point where you switched to that channel, if you want!) Not so on Cox! 6. THIS IS THE MOST IRRITATING THING OF ALL: On uVerse, Pause is PAUSE! On Cox, pause is "pause for a little while, then suddenly your TV is blaring out of control!! On live TV, it just resumes the live broadcast. On uVerse it's even worse! Some cheeky spokes person starts blathering about "What's on OnDemand". She (usually its a 'she') invades your media space after a short pause and also whenever you go into the OnDemand menu. It's REALLY ANNOYING!!! Cox does none of this! Basically, on uVerse this is an "Opt-in" feature. On Cox, this is "Opt-out, suckka"! 7. Just from an over-all sense of the difference [don't remember the details], the Cox menu system provides several ways to access the various things one commonly likes to do [like changing a single recording to a series recording]. Right away, when we first started using the Cox menu system, we noticed how difficult it was to do the things we wanted to do! Plus, the uVerse layout is far more "intuitive" -- it just makes a lot more sense! Remote Control: 1. Along with a "Replay" button, the Cox remote also has a Jump Forward ("FWD") button -- I really miss that! Besides the 2 extra tuners and the larger harddisk, the only thing, that I can think of, that Cox does better then uVerse, is the "Available disk space" indicator. On Cox, it includes the space used by "Save until Space Needed". I really like that because it gives one a better idea of how much disk space actually exists [uVerse lumps together the space used by all recordings, including recording that are being saved until "Space Needed"--misleading, if you don't care if the "save until Space Needed" recordings are deleted]. The only reason we switched from uVerse to Cox was for the 6 tuner gateway and the larger harddisk (2TB) -- much needed in our household! As soon as uVerse catches up, we're switching back!!5.3KViews0likes9CommentsBrowse or Search by Genre
We just got the whole home DVR with the Cisco 9865HDC and there are some things that are pretty nice about it, but there are some functionalities that are truly missing. One of them is the ability to search for programming by genre. My wife love horror movies, especially in October, but there is no way to do a simple search for all the horror movies coming on. With the ability to record 6 shows at once, it would be nice to specifically find what we're looking for to record. The only work-around I have found is to select a horror movie in the guide, go to browse related, then go to related genre. It works, but that's a lot of steps to find the genres. In our old DVRs, we could simply go to the guide, hit search, select by genre, and there are the results.3.9KViews0likes1CommentAds on Rovi Guide page now - Guide button behavior change
Until a few weeks few weeks ago, there were no advertisements on the Guide page. Now there is a large rectangle at the bottom right of the screen with a rotating ad area like on a web page. Pressing the "B" button takes one to the full-page ad. Cox could add another row to the listings if they weren't wasting the space for this 'banner'. Also, the Guide button used to toggle the Guide open and closed, but now there is a third mode for selecting a Search. This is because they had to re-purpose the buttons for showing the ad. Does anyone else feel the way I do, that this small change isEXTREMELY OBNOXIOUS??? Pretty soon they'll steal another row from the listing grid, then another... Pretty soon we'll only be able to see one row at a time in the 'grid', while the rest of the page shows a bunch of color clashing ads, like the worst of the World Wide Web...3.5KViews0likes7CommentsChannel 18 Estrella TV shows Court TV listings
Here in Ft Smith AR prior to January 14 2020 Channel 18 carried Estrella TV and the Contour program guide listed Estrella TV programming. Then suddenly the next day the program guide started listing programs for the Court TV channel but Estrella TV programs are still broadcast, and this discrepancy has persisted as of the date of this post. Setting my DVR to record Estrella TV programming is no longer possible. I checked with a number of Cox customers around the area and they see the same discrepancy on their Contour cable boxes. I called Cox tv support and they wanted to replace my cable box! Last week I went to the Cox Solutions store on Rogers Avenue and the tv displays in their show room have the same discrepancy! Nobody in the room could explain it. One employee said he would file a work order and let me know what he found out but I have heard nothing back. Does anybody know what this problem is and when will it be resolved? I hope they keep Estrella TV!3.5KViews0likes6Comments
