Intermittent Email send/receive failures with POP3 - Again, for weeks
I posted this a couple weeks ago, have received no responses, and discovered it was deleted. So I'm posting it again. Don't delete it again...please solve it. For the past few weeks now, I've been experiencing the infamous & intermittent email send/receive failures, like many other customers in these forums have reported. My system specs: Windows 10 Pro x64 MS Windows Defender active, no other security packages MS Outlook Cox Internet Preferred package with the Cox provided DOCSYS 3.0 NetGear N450 modem/router My issues: For several weeks, my various Cox email accounts have intermittent problems sending or receiving emails through Outlook 2007. When receiving emails, I'll get the Outlook pop-up error window stating: ------------------------------------------------------------------- "Task 'myemailaddress' - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC92 or some other error code) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)." ------------------------------------------------------------------- This issue happens consistently, several times a day with all my Cox email accounts...then emails will suddenly work again...then the issue reappears, rinse & repeat...it's an ongoing cycle of working/not working throughout the day for the past few weeks now. I don't bother calling Support about this because they usually blame Outlook and do nothing. It's not an Outlook problem. Everything works great, when it works...then this sudden issue pops once or twice a year, as so many other customers have been reporting. And as mentioned by other customers, Cox somewhat acknowledges that they know about this problem with email and it's been kicked upstairs for a harder look. In the past, I've reset my Outlook settings for the Cox emails, tried different settings and ports according to the Cox email support docs, and even deleted my Cox email account profiles within Outlook and recreated them (in case they were corrupted). Nothing has worked. This happens regularly, so please Cox...don't ask the usual questions about using Webmail, trying another computer, etc. We know, and you know, this has been a persistent, recurring issue with Cox email accounts for many years and these suggestions don't work or fix anything. Usually, Cox Support hems & haws and says they're working on it...or they wrongly blame Outlook...and nothing gets resolved. After repeated complaints to report the issue, they'll usually reset or do something to solve the issue. So I'm adding my issue & complaint here to be resolved also. Please fix this email issues ASAP. Thank you.8.8KViews0likes17CommentsRandom high latency spikes
I am in CT and since Tuesday morning I receive high latency spikes from most websites and servers I go to - from Facebook and Google to gaming servers and even VPN for work (which my office also has Cox). I had a tech come out yesterday and inspect my lines - he said they were perfect (my house is only 6 years old and the drop from the box to my house was installed just a few months ago). When I called Tier 2 again I had to give them 3 sets of pings and traceroutes; I provided Google, Facebook, and io9.com. The person I talked to sent them somewhere (network engineers, maybe?) and called back 10 minutes later saying it wasn't anything happening in the Cox network, that my ping and traceroute packets are being deprioritized after the Cox network. I'd agree with this if it was just the three sites that I provided the data for, but when it's every single site I visit - again, websites, gaming servers, servers at work through a VPN tunnel, I highly question whether all of those servers will be deprioritizing my network traffic (and why would they deprioritize non ping/traceroute packets?). I'm extremely frustrated since this makes working extremely difficult. Of course Cox engineers are going to say it's not them. When I VPN into a machine at my office and perform the same traceroutes/pings I don't get the high latency spikes that I'm experiencing from home. What are my options? Should I continue to call Tier 2 and demand a better explanation as to why all of my traffic is "being deprioritized"?6.7KViews0likes15CommentsCorrect firmware version for Cisco DPQ3212?
I've been having intermittent internet speed problems for the past month. After 3 visits by Cox technicians, I am still having the issue. The technicians have "improved" various things such as connectors, amplifiers, splitters, etc. About a month ago the technician told me that since I have both phone and internet, I could get a free cable modem from Cox. He gave me a CiscoDPQ3212 which worked fairly well for a while. However, we have continued to have slow speeds, with the upstream speeds sometimes approaching *zero* during weekdays. Very recently I noticed that myDPQ3212 was not bonding 4 upstream channels. It would sometimes do only 1, 2 or 3 channels upstream. I spoke with Cox Support today and we agreed that I should try a swap on theDPQ3212. I swapped modems and things do seem to be a bit better; however we are still experiencing some (less severe) slowdowns. The modem has (at least for today) bonded all 4 upstream channels. I think that is a good sign. Enough about my problems. Now to my questions. I noticed that my first DPQ3212 had newer firmware than the one I received today. The previousDPQ3212 had firmware version D3212-P15-5-v302r12901-110223a-COX(built on Feb 23 2011 16:13:10) but theDPQ3212 I received today has firmware versiond3200-P15-5-v302r125573-20131008a-COX (Oct 21 10:08:39 2013). Both modems report a hardware revision of 1.0. The only thing I can see that might be different is that the previousDPQ3212 reports itself as aDPQ3212C instead of justDPQ3212. But the Cmight have just been added by the newer firmware? Is the modem I received today running the correct firmware version? If not, how can I get this upgraded?6.7KViews0likes1CommentSpeed problems : SOLVED ! More than likely Windows 10 default settings here's a tip that works
1st off - I'm a 16+ year Cox customer andthought I'd sharea success to my speed problems - I've been watching my speeds for several months - I'ma windows 10 preview participant and notice after every install my internet speeds were being "nerfed or adjusted according to windows defaults . After countless tweaks ,router resets and hours upon hours on the phone with Cox Customer service I discover this page. https://redacted.tv/2017/12/20/win10guide/This guideIfollowed to the letter and wow this fix my speed problems I hope it will help you. UNACCEPTABLE
There are daily internet outages in my area (92026) this is unacceptable! I need to work remotely and with 0.5Mbps upload speeds, it is impossible. I pay for 300 down/ 30 up speeds and rarely reach those speeds AND NO it's not my modem and I refuse to reboot the darn thing again! So far I have not seen any credit applied to my account for the lack of service or any notice of when the issues are going to be resolved permanently. You guys are pushing me to get ATT more every day and I hate ATT but this is just wrong. Get it together COX!!!!.6.2KViews0likes30CommentsWhy doesn't Cox support 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems?
It is strange to me that the MSO competition (although not in this market) has significantly faster HSI options than Cox, and currently support the newer 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems. If Cox was serious about this whole "Gigablast" rollout by the end of 2016, then one would assume that this would be something of a priority for them. As a long time customer of Cox, I was disappointed to hear that the Netgear CM500 modem (16x4) was not on the approved list, but the Netgear CM400 (8x4) is. I planned to fork over whatever it cost to retrofit for this gigabit internet option, but after seeing that I would need to spend even more money in a year to probably not get a fraction of the advertised speed was disheartening. I wish we had TWC or Comcast as options here in the valley as I would change providers right now. This may sound like a rant and quite possibly is, but the only difference in hardware between the two modems is the amount of downstream channels they have. This is ultimately irrelevant since the ISP determines your internet speeds. The most frustrating part is that the approved modem which can handle half the speed of the non-approved one; is only $20 less than the better one. Thank you Cox for still finding a way to cost me more money....I hope Google Fiber or CenturyLink rollout before Cox does, because that is where my money will go.5.8KViews0likes3CommentsRejected messages
It appears the new spam filtering service Cox is using (cloudfilter.net) is blocking a lot of valid mail. I would like to know where our individual portals and addressbooks are that we can configure our own whitelists and to be able to see what messages are being rejected. It is one thing to be identify a message as spam, and another thing entirely to reject them without notification. I have mail senders from a good number of places and since my mail volume has dropped by over 75%, it is quite safe to assume the spam aggressiveness thresholds are set quite high as well as are the bulk sender identifiers and anti-spoofing features. While you claim to not whitelist senders, you do need to provide your users the ability to do so. No doing so means you are censoring email Also, it is poor form to put a like to review changes and then have it error out. http://postmaster.cox.net/confluence/display/postmaster/Error+Codes If you are going to implement such a service you should become a lot more responsive with corrective actions. I am now on my second day waiting for an answer on my ticket with Tier 2, and third day with the actual issue at large.5.7KViews0likes7CommentsIntermittent Email send/receive failures with POP3
For several weeks now, I've been experiencing the intermittent email send/receive failures, like many other customers in these forums have reported. This needs to get fixed by Cox ASAP, instead of sometimes telling us it's being worked on. My system specs: Windows 8.1 Pro x64 MS Windows Defender active, no other security packages MS Outlook 2007 Cox Internet Preferred package with the Cox provided DOCSYS 3.0 NetGear N450 modem/router My issues: For several weeks, my various @cox.net email accounts have intermittent problems sending or receiving emails through Outlook 2007. My primary Cox email account has the most problems, though. When receiving emails, I'll get the Outlook pop-up error window stating: ------------------------------------------------------------------- "Task 'myemailaddress@cox.net - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)." ------------------------------------------------------------------- This issue happens consistently, several times a day...then emails will suddenly work again...then the issue reappears, rinse & repeat...it's an ongoing cycle of working/not working throughout the day for several weeks now. I have several other non-Cox email addresses that have no issues at all sending/receiving within Outlook. Only my Cox email addresses have this issue. In addition, on several occasions, I've noticed that when I do receive emails, they may be several hours old. I called Support about this a few weeks ago, but they blamed Outlook, like usual. It's not an Outlook problem. Everything worked great for years...then this sudden issue pops up a few weeks ago, as so many other customers have been reporting. And as mentioned by other customers, Cox somewhat acknowledges that they know about this problem with email and it's been kicked upstairs for a harder look. But this has been going on for far too long and we never see a solution. On my end, I've reset my Outlook settings for the Cox emails, tried different settings and ports according to the Cox email support docs, and even deleted my Cox email account profiles within Outlook and recreated them (in case they were corrupted). Nothing has worked. From a troubleshooting standpoint, everything points to Cox being the culprit, which they have acknowledged. Instead of just nodding at us, tell us what's really going on, lean on the people upstairs to fix this, and give us an ETA for the hard fix. I've been a Cox customer for around 20 years and was one of the first to jump on to your cable Internet service when it arrived back in the 90s. I've always recommended Cox to my friends because of the solid service & support. Now, with the rate hikes, cutting of channels in TV packages (although no reduction in charges), spotty service & support, I have been seriously considering alternatives. You have a lot of unhappy customers that you just raised rates on a few months ago, some of whom rely on email for their business, and are wondering what's gone wrong with the usually solid service & support we've had from Cox for years. Thank you.5.4KViews0likes7CommentsChange Billing Date
When i signed up 10/29/15 i was asked what day i would like my billing date to be on. I responded with the 15th, somehow i found my bill to be on the 23rd yet you were still able to bill me for 30 days worth of service and everything i see points to 24 days of service, if i'm doing the counting thing right. Every Cox Rep seems to say the same thing. it doesn't matter what day your billing due date is because we give you 10 day grace period. My problem is, is that i'll be charged a flat rate rather than a pro-rated rate for how many days i actually use. Noone can change the billing date for me because "The system will not let them" or "since you have promotions on your account i'm unable to process your request, i can cancel all your promotions in order to change your billing date" I've even gone to the extent of trying to cancel my acct and set up a new one and they would'nt let me.4.1KViews0likes1CommentIntermittent disconnects and packet loss
Hello, Issue: Issue 1: Every few minutes or so I get 1-3% packet loss. Sometimes it can go up to 20%, but this usually only happens 1-2 times a day. Issue 2: My internet will drop connection. There is no trigger for this. It happens any time. The odd thing is that when the internet drops, I can still hear my friends talking on discord. I cannot speak back to them, but I will be able to listen to their conversation while I wait for discord to drop me for disconnect issues. It's almost as if my packets being received are coming in fine, while the packets trying to leave are getting lost. When the internet goes out, all the Wi-Fi and ethernet connections disconnect as well. I know this because, my wife's ethernet connected computer disconnects, and the PlayStation on Wi-Fi disconnects. Also, my phone disconnects. None of the lights on the modem change. The internet usually comes back on 1-2 minutes later, but this happens frequently. Usually around every 30 minutes. If I run a tracert to google.com it says that the Destination host is unreachable. My setup: I have a Motorola Gigabyte modem with Docsys 3.0. That is connected to a UBNT Edgerouter X Router (Firmware is up to date), the router is connected to a TL-SG1210P switch, and the switch is connected to an access point for Wi-Fi and 2 computers. The Coaxial is directly connected from the tap to the modem. No splitting. The Coaxial cable has been completely replaced by a Cox technician, and tested for assurance. What has been done: I have had two different technicians come to my house and confirm that the node that feeds internet to the neighborhood is malfunctioning. The first technician setup a test that would check the node directly and report back any problems. She found tons of issues, and put in a work order to fix the node. The node was reported "serviced" in November. The packet loss issues started coming back, and with each day they worsen. The technician has since ghosted me, and will not respond to my recurring issues. The packet loss used to be consistent and around 15-50% loss. Since the node has been service, the issue has lessoned, but still persists. Before this, I had a DIFFERENT technician who didn't understand what packet loss was, but at least believed there was an issue because my upload speed was almost 0. He hooked up his monitor to my modem directly; the problem persisted. I kept trying to convince him that the problem lies with the node, but he didn't understand. I had him switch my modem out for a cox modem to prove to him that it wasn't my modem. The problem still persisted. We hooked my modem back up, and I took him outside to check the line feeding into the tap for my house. The problem persisted. We scoured through my neighborhood, and found the node that distributes internet to everyone, and hooked DIRECTLY into the node. The problem persisted. He called his superior, and the superior said he will have to send a specialist out to service the node, because there is something wrong with it. When the problems started to arise again in December, I tried to contact the technician who left me a work number, but they didn't respond. I tried calling Cox again, and they wanted to send out ANOTHER technician. I cancelled, because I've already been through this loop many times, and if the problem isn't occurring when they show up, then they will say that everything is fine.I am also afraid of getting another incompetent technician. I am willing to jump through some more hoops for technicians if they need more clarification on the issues. Let me know what you would like me to do. Thank you.Solved4.1KViews2likes9Comments
