Configuring modem/router to modem only
I am hoping someone can help point me in the right direction. I have a Netgear C3700 DOCSIS 3.0 Wi-Fi modem/router which I currently have configured to provide my home access to the Internet. However I've recently purchased a new router (D-Link DIR-837) to use to hopefully improve/extend my Wi-Fi and Internet capabilities. I tried setting up the new router per the instructions but am getting no internet connection. Reading the modem/router manual I noticed it suggested disabling the router (NAT) mode to enable bridging however once that setting was enabled I lost all Internet connectivity through my Netgear C3700. Is there a setting/step I'm missing here that would allow me to use a separate router and my Netgear C3700 as the modem only? Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.15KViews0likes3CommentsWhy the wait for installation?
I was scheduled to have internet access installed on Friday March 11, but the technician said that because it was raining he couldn't climb the ladder to make the connection at the pole. He told me that I would be contacted to make another appointment. Of course no one contacted me. I called customer service to reschedule installation and they told me the earliest I could schedule another appointment would be Thursday, March 17. Why do I have to go to the "back of the line" for an installation time because the install tech couldn't do his job? I would very much like to have my service connected sooner than that. It seems to me that since this delay was through no fault of my own I should be able to have service connected sooner than a week later.5.6KViews0likes4CommentsSlow speeds with Motorola SB 6182 and Trendnet TEW-731BR
Hi all, I acquired a nice Surfboard 6182 modem yesterday and am having problems with slow speeds (20-30Mbps down/8 up) since it's installation. Hard-wiring to the modem with my laptop yields 100Mbps+ but the wifi is choking the speeds down. I have upgraded my wireless router to the latest firmware but that has not helped. Tried many different combinations of settings on the Trendnet with little to no difference. Changed from mixed mode to 802.11n with no difference. My laptop is running Windows 10 and another is running Windows 7. Both of these clients are HP Elitebooks that are a couple of years old. Here are my current settings on my Windows PC: SSID: ScrappyWorld Protocol: 802.11n Security type: WPA2-Personal IPv4 address: 192.168.10.101 IPv4 DNS Servers: 192.168.10.1 Manufacturer: Broadcom Description: Broadcom 43224AGN 802.11a/b/g/n 2x2 Wi-Fi Adapter Driver version: 6.30.223.181 Physical address: AC-81-12-D7-04-67 I can also post the Trendnet settings and SB 6182 settings if that would help. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I am by no means a networking engineer but hopefully can fumble my way to fixing this with some assistance! Ever since the weekend of the superbowl I have been unable to properly stream gaming content to twitch. I am able to watch streams with no issues and browse sites during these stream issues. I have made contacts to both Twitch and Cox and was informed the issues was most likely on my ISP. Out of frustration I also tried streaming to youtube gaming and got the same issues. My computer is more than capable of handling streaming as I had done so months before the super bowl. Currently I am at a loss after contact support and speaking to level two support being told there is no issues when clearly there is. I have a tracert attached to show my results below. Please any ideas or help for this would be appreciated as this new found issue has become overly annoying. What happened to the internet in 73110? We had internet all through the ice strom then lost it and haven't gotten it back. I keep getting the note of technicians are working on it and no estimate time for when it will be back up. I get things may be hectic but where is the update from Cox on what happened. My work and school is severely affected by this. I would like some sort of explanation.2.5KViews1like6CommentsNetgear C6300BD constant reboot
I have done so much research on the net trying to track down the cause of this issue. It was happening with multiple modems...the most recent of which is the Netgear C6300BD, which is what I have and the only one that they would give me that could handle AC protocol adapters.. they said. Still, I get dropped multiple times an hour when my cable modem reboots itself. I have had NUMEROUS technicians out to my house to fix this... and one guy fixed things for awhile, but now it's starting again. He said it had something to do with another guy down the street and that his line was piggybacking off of mine... not as in he was stealing it.. but that there was a problem with the lines and that a new line would have to be put in. Does this make sense to anyone? This is what my logs look like and as a work from home web developer, the CONSTANT dropping not only makes doing my job impossible...and it happens like every 5 minutes it seems.. is putting my job in jeopardy. I am in conference calls with shared screen meetings and will get dropped 3 times in the same meeting. This is a big fat no go. I don't even have cable tv... and I pay over $100 a month to Cox. I'd give my right arm to go back to FIOS that I had in Oregon. It's to the point where I'm ready to move back there. I don't know what else to do though about this constant ongoing issue with Cox that doesn't seem to have any hope of being resolved. For about three weeks I've been experiencing a bad connection. Originally it was slow with lots of lag in games and buffering when I watched streaming. I contacted Cox via phone support and after a few reboots of my modem the tech said that they could no longer see it on the network. I've since then replaced the modem and still experiencing the problem with a new modem (Motorola SB6183). Tech one that was sent out was unable to fix issue, even trying a modem from the truck and it not working correctly. He left for the next job and when he returned it seemed to work directly connected to my PC. After he left I setup my network connecting it to my router (Asus RT-N66U). I didn't notice any speed slowdowns for a few days. On the second service call the second tech diagnosed it as my router since directly connected its fine, but on my network its not working. I replaced the router with a Asus RT-AC88U. Now about three weeks later, It's still just as bad as it was when I first called. I've also change out Ethernet cable from router to modem and still no change. Last week, I spoke to a representative about changing my Cox services. When I asked about cancelling my cable TV, she informed me as of May 7, the signal from my local networks would no longer be available to be received by an over the air antenna. She informed me I would need a cable box after that date if I wanted to watch any kind of television programming. I tried to tell her I thought she was mistaken, but she insisted without cable, I would lose all local channels on May 7. When I asked what the affiliates would do with their huge antennas, she told me the antennas were being used to push the signal underground to the cable boxes. Why are your representatives being trained to tell outright lies in order to scare customers into keeping their service?2KViews0likes1CommentLatency issues
