HDMI on Contour box not compatible with HDMI on TV
My mother was forced to switch from the traditional Cox main cable box to Contour, and the Contour HDMI connection is apparently not compatible with the HDMI port on her first generation Sharp Aquos HD LCD TV (she just gets a blank screen), forcing her to use the much lower resolution coaxial connection. Other devices, such as a laptop, DVD player, and Blu-Ray player, work fine with that TV HDMI port, and both the picture and sound on the TV are gorgeous, and worked perfectly with the old cable box, so she's not about to replace the TV. According to the tech who came out to troubleshoot, the issue is apparently with the overly sensitive HDMI port on the Contour boxes. Is there another type of box with alternate connections (i.e. DVI, composite, etc.) that Cox can provide at no additional charge? She's already paying around $200 per month for TV, internet, and phone, and that's without having any movie channels or a DVR; and since it was Cox'schoice to force the box change, the problem is on their end.10KViews0likes3CommentsContour DVR & Samsung TV have Intermittant Audio for all live, pre-recorded & Netflix shows
Have a new Contour box on a new Samsung TV connected via HDMI cable that has intermittent audio with sound dropping out for from several seconds to several minutes at a time, on all channels and all modes of viewing (live, recorded, On Demand & Netflix). Neither resetting nor replacing the Contour box has resolved the issue. Help! Signed: Missing Dish in San Diego1.2KViews1like1CommentHD TV over coaxial cable with MiniBox
I, like many customers have been forced to transition from my basic "wall to tv" cable service to the Cox MiniBox. The MiniBox has worked wellenough (despite being a horrible eyesore on my otherwise well organized armoire) while I was using the HDMI output, but I recently acquired an additional peripheral that requires me to now use the Coax option on the MiniBox (the new equipment uses HDMI only, and my tv only has 2 HDMI ports). So now, I am stuck with a 480i signal, despite the fact that I used to receive 1080i HD channels directly from the wall before the transition (over a coax cable, without the box). If I go to the Cox settings menu, it coyly allows me to select the "video output" option under "video/audio" settings, but then DOES NOT LET ME CHANGE IT TO 1080i, the ONLY option is 480i. So Cox has rigged their box to unchangeably default to 480i if you are using a coax connection, even though the coax standard is capable of carrying a 1080i signal flawlessly. I am assuming this is just another "horrible cable company doing horrible things because they're horrible" thing, but if anyone has any idea how to work around this without me having to purchase an additional device to convert HDMI to coax I would certainly appreciate it. Also, if any Cox representative can give me a logical explanation as to why this problem exists beyond "we love making your life difficult" I would love to hear it, because you have done little to prove otherwise. This is not a hardware limitation, you could easily convert your signal to 1080i compatible with a coax output, but you choose not to, and that is truly aggravating.3.3KViews0likes3CommentsHDMI Cable Problem
I am attempting to use HDMI cable with a Rocketfish transmitter receiver, to connect a second TV in a room other than were my primary cable box and DVD and such are located. I receive the video portion fine, but cannot get the Audio to work. Do I need to change a setting on my box to get HDMI sound? Do I need to disconnect the RCA cables to my primary TV when connecting the HDMI cable?2.2KViews0likes2CommentsHDMI Passthrough
I just had the Countour (Cisco DPQ3925) DVR installed. Video (and audio) is output via HDMI and goes first to my Onkyo receiver and then on to the TV. I have HDMI passthrough turned on in the receiver so that when the receiver is off, the video and audio are passed through to the TV. However, now when I turn on the receiver, the video remains but there is no sound. During the install, I did hear sound via the receiver, but something happened, and now there is no sound. I have checked the Contour setup screens and I can't find anything that changes this behavior. Is there a setting I am missing? This worked fine for my DirecTV DVR that was replaced by the Coutour. I recently purchased a Samsung smart TV and currently have an Explorer 2100. What cable should be used for HDMI conversion with the Explorer 2100 so I can connect the new TV? If the Explorer 2100 is not HDMI compatible, then should I bring the box to my local Cox store for an exchange? Thanks.2KViews0likes1CommentHDMI problem with Cisco 4742HDC
We have had Contour 6 whole home for near a year. We recently started having problem with HDMI connection to our Sony TV from the client Cisco 4724HDC. When both power up, the box display cycles between time and 2d HDMI hand shake. This last for few minutes and sometimes connection will be established and other times not. I have rebooted box several times, changed HDMI cable, tried different HDMI inputs on TV and verified all TV HDMI inputs work with a DVD/VCR unit. None corrected problem but verified TV and cables OK. The box RCA outputs will work even when HDMI output doesn’t. Is there any setup in the box that would correct? Can Cox do something electronically over cable to help? Any suggestion of other things to try? If box has to be replaced, could I just exchange at Cox store or would there be some setup needed?13KViews0likes8Comments
