Not receiving near Gigablast Speeds
Hi, So this may have been posted elsewhere, but I'm definitely having speed issues with Cox Gigablast in my area. I am using DOCSIS 3.1, not Fiber. I am currently using the Motorola MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 and the Motorola MR1900 AC Router setup. I have had two techs come out. The first was unhelpful, and just said there were disruptions in the lines, and he would create a ticket for it. I then called again a few weeks later to have a lead technician come out and check things out. When he hooked up the test machine direct to my router, he was able to achieve 1.1gbps download and 38mbps upload, which is what I would expect. But when I hookup up my laptop in the same scenario, which has a Killer wireless Gigabit Port capable of 940mbps, I max out at 477mbps download, and 32mbps upload. And those results were intermittent. Sometimes it would be 84mbps, other times it would be 300mbps. But I am never able to achieve speeds even close to 1gbps. His results were all consistent, except one time when it came back with roughly 200mps. And this has all been direct wired. I have been testing all of this on the 5ghz network as well. Mentioning wireless, the fastest I ever achieved is 360mbps download and 32mbps upload. Then it would drop all the way down to 17mbps download sometimes. But uploads are always consistent. Consistently at this point I haven't seen about 200mbps download from any device over WiFi I'm extremely frustrated at this point, as it seems when the technician was able to connect his device, he could receive the speeds I am expecting, yet when I hooked up my brand new laptop, I don't even receive half of that. I am currently working with Motorola to see if there is a problem with the router and/or modem, but everything seems to be in order (Channels etc). Its just odd that the tech could receive the gigabit speeds when direct wiring his machine, and I can't with mine. I can provides captures of speed tests run and channel settings. I'm just extremely frustrated. Does anyone have any recommendations for the router and/or modem setup? Am I missing something? Oh, and ever since I changed to Gigablast, it constantly says on my account "Service Interrupted" by my Internet package settings on Cox.com. When I asked Cox about this a week ago, the mentioned its because site maintenance was being done, but its still there. I couldn't see it being my personal equipment: 2017 Razer Blade Pro and 2017 Macbook Pro, both of which are 802.11AC iPhone X Game Consoles25KViews0likes6CommentsD3.1 Gigablast Activation: Is Pro Install really needed???
Hi! I currently have the Ultimate package in Phoenix area. Have a Docsis 3.1 modem (Netgear CM1000) with 1 bonded OFDM downstream channel (159, 300MHz, SNR over 40dB). I added the gigablast option via cox internet order website and received direction to call to complete. When I call the sales rep won't complete the order without a "pro install" truck roll for $75. Per reports on dslreports cox forum - a truck is NOT required but some sales reps are demanding it while other sales reps are transitiioning order to complete to trigger a modem provision and all ends up well. Some would-be-upgraders denied by less-trained sales reps are simply calling in many times to get a 'trained' rep. Is there secret we can use to get the sales rep to execute the order without a trick roll? I hate being the jerk that has to escalate to supervisor and not willing to call in a dozen times to get lucky.. Any hints on how I can to get past the sales rep so pay Cox more money for the upgrade?Solved12KViews0likes10CommentsCox Gigablast using an Apple Airport Extreme wireless modem
I recently had Cox Gigablast internet service installed. Instead of the netgear wireless router supplied by Cox, I elected to continue using my existing router (at least for the near future) which is an Apple Airport Extreme. While the new service is extremely fast, it sometimes slows down. I was wondering if there might be some settings that need to be used when having an Airport Extreme router used in this application. Has anyone has any experience with this? Also, as I have a wireless coverage problem in my house, can anyone recommend a wireless router that has an extended range?9.8KViews0likes7CommentsSo does Gigablast come with unlimited or not?
I recently went over my data cap and decided to upgraded my 100 plan to unlimited. I called to see what we can do about this and I asked the rep if Gigablast came with unlimited already. He said yes, but today I looked at the website and it said that it also has a 1TB cap in the fine print. So which is it?5.4KViews0likes3CommentsGigablast with Digital Phone
Is there a way to use the fiber connection from my Gigablast service to run my Cox Digital Phone? Currently my digital phone is hooked up via the coax cable connection, and the service seems laggy (takes a few seconds to get a dial tone, as much as 3 seconds). Also, I seem to have to reboot the Cisco DPQ3212 phone modem frequently as some calls go right to voice mail. I'd like to either a) find a supported VOIP phone adapter that bridges my home phone lines to the the fiber line, or b) get the SIP credentials and settings for my Cox service to just go with a real VOIP setup in my home It seems a shame to use the coax instead of the beautifully fast service through the fiber line. Gigablast is just simply fantastic. Thank you -3.7KViews0likes3CommentsCox Gigablast - Video buffering issues
I have been with Cox Gigablast for 3-4 months now. I am getting poor video streaming quality compared to what I used to receive when I was on their Preferred plan (30mbps). I have tried this on several websites that we have been using for 8+ years and all the buffering issues have cropped up since we installed GigaBlast :( I have tried this on connected-mode and in wireless. I just had a better experience with CoxInternet when I was on CoAx .. The speeds are in excess of 700Mbps upload and download when I do the Internet speedtest with Fiber. But the constant "bufferring" during video playback is very annoying. It defies common sense. Anyone facing this issue and have any suggestions?3.6KViews0likes1CommentGigablast
Couple of things. First my internet has displayed the message of “service interrupted” for almost a year, even though it was working. I believe it is because it thinks I have a different modem installed then what I actually do. I had replaced my modem last year about this time. I again replaced my modem yesterday with the new CM8200 and upgraded my account to Gigablast, but after following the self service install and even calling in to double check I have not experienced a speed increase. I wanted to see if I could have my account checked again, to make sure I am set up correctly to receive the new Gigablast connections speeds. Thanks in advanced!3.6KViews0likes5CommentsWHEN WILL WE SEE IPv6?
This is my residential account which I've had for the past 2.5 years and once in a while I'll review the SB 6141 logs which show the same consistent errors at the end of every dynamic, 24 hour refresh &/or power failure as well. I've resided in several of the states Cox provides service to and must say that the little old Virginia Beach, VA 23451, 23456 areas have seen little in terms of performance boost over the same period. Having a unique business which serves the large retirement community of West Neck Village and the adjacent homes bordering the Signature Golf Corse has given me plenty of insight as to common problems that could be easily fixed with some accurate, personable discussion in advance with residents here. Almost every house hold visited maintains a Cox internet package along with phone and TV packages bundled in an effort to keep customers under some false belief that they might actually be saving money. I really differ in this opinion and for starters, let's consider the "upgrade anything package" with key emphasis on variables that cypher from anything to words like premier and ultimate internet packages throughout. I can't begin to tell you (yes I do have an extensive log book) the number of times I've not only helped introduce a retiree to the web based account access but further investigation revealed that they were using DOCSIS 2.0 modems at best ranging in with old Motorola SB 51_0 and had no idea that the speed they were bottlenecking at 40 to 50Mbps down and maybe 15 up was nowhere near the potential of the advertised Premier, let alone Ultimate band width delivered. The fact is, your customer information pages are far too vague and Cox has but a few markets with Giga Blast or whatever catch jingle advertised. Further, how can a customer be upgraded to the Ultimate Tier and have a tech (on both occasions they claimed their presence stating all is well) not only provision the account but knowingly leave the antiquated DOCSIS 2.0 modems running on the customer’s account? In so far as IPv6 is concerned, is there a date when we can expect to say good bye to the 6 to 4 standard. My business account is running IPv6 so what gives? I've been the go to guy for computer, electronic, gadget, games and emergency services equipment installs since the infancy of this community (my parents also reside here) and more often than not have scratched my head wondering what the h_ll is going on with proper coverage from actual Cox Techs that were not only helpful, but available from 04' through 07' Now, it's hit and miss with subcontractors who might be trained to run RG through a floor plate, terminate with compressed fitting, screw the cable into said hole "cable" power on the modem with hopefully 110 current (yes there once was a 220 incident) dial up support, provision MAC and Serial number (this floors me as a ultimate speed internet package holder with SB5120 modems) connect the Cat 5e to the router and ask or tell, "well mam, your internet is all up to snuff and we also checked, with your permission as to connectivity through you home router and Walla, you are good to go. As I write this, I'm in area code 23451 and it wouldn't matter if I had single or dual band capable DOCSIS 3.0 modems, I still have yet to see 150 Mbps down and not much past 20 up. I had techs out in which they all concur (hint, I was a cable tech who used his Wavetek CLI-1750 religiously) the infrastructure locally is a hybrid of old, new and salvaged equipment dating back to the late 80s’ So then my question on my account page wants me to upgrade my modem from the SB6141 to a SB6183 dual band modem. Should I invest in hopes that I might actually see the holy grail of 150Mbps? You know how frustrating it is as member of Broadband Reports who probably visits the site 2 or 3 times a year and read the Q & A section for Cox HSI customers only to realize their screen clipping of modem stats indicates 200+Mbps on an average in AZ and other markets compared to your customers in Virginia who will never see service levels comparable to actual Cox Employees who, I’m sure take pride in their work. Honestly, it ** and please excuse the slang but no other term fits your service so well. Oh, how could I depart without asking were one of the so many available Wi-Fi hotspots are down here at the ocean front? Of all the areas that could benefit customers who are existing Cox account holders and vacation in Virginia Beach, only to find that there service provider doesn’t have WIFI locally, Not Hot or Spot Regards, Brian R.2.6KViews0likes1CommentGigablast consistently coming in WAY short (<50%) of total speeds
Signed up for Gigablast about 4 months ago. When I first signed up, I was consistantly getting 900+ Mbps up and down. I work from home, and I move a lot of data around, so the speed was a godsend. It was easily the biggest quality of life improvement I've have in my job, ever. The last 6 weeks, however, have been total lackluster. My speeds will never go over about 480Mbps. I noticed the drop in speeds right away, and I'm well aware of how speeds can fluctuate based on congestion, so I've been monitoring it several times a day. It doesn't matter what time of day I test my speeds - 2 AM, 5:30 AM, 9 AM, 3 PM, and 11 PM, weekdays and weekends - it's always between 440 Mbps to 480 Mbps, down and up. I've been monitoring it for 4 weeks, every day, and no change. Since I'm sure it'll be asked - yes, I've rebooted machines, the router, and the modem. The PC I test with is hardlined into the router, and yes, I've bypassed the router on the test PC as well. It's definitely not my home network. Anyone else with Gigablast experiencing less than half the speeds they are supposed to be getting?2.5KViews0likes4Comments
