Not receiving near Gigablast Speeds
Hi, So this may have been posted elsewhere, but I'm definitely having speed issues with Cox Gigablast in my area. I am using DOCSIS 3.1, not Fiber. I am currently using the Motorola MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 and the Motorola MR1900 AC Router setup. I have had two techs come out. The first was unhelpful, and just said there were disruptions in the lines, and he would create a ticket for it. I then called again a few weeks later to have a lead technician come out and check things out. When he hooked up the test machine direct to my router, he was able to achieve 1.1gbps download and 38mbps upload, which is what I would expect. But when I hookup up my laptop in the same scenario, which has a Killer wireless Gigabit Port capable of 940mbps, I max out at 477mbps download, and 32mbps upload. And those results were intermittent. Sometimes it would be 84mbps, other times it would be 300mbps. But I am never able to achieve speeds even close to 1gbps. His results were all consistent, except one time when it came back with roughly 200mps. And this has all been direct wired. I have been testing all of this on the 5ghz network as well. Mentioning wireless, the fastest I ever achieved is 360mbps download and 32mbps upload. Then it would drop all the way down to 17mbps download sometimes. But uploads are always consistent. Consistently at this point I haven't seen about 200mbps download from any device over WiFi I'm extremely frustrated at this point, as it seems when the technician was able to connect his device, he could receive the speeds I am expecting, yet when I hooked up my brand new laptop, I don't even receive half of that. I am currently working with Motorola to see if there is a problem with the router and/or modem, but everything seems to be in order (Channels etc). Its just odd that the tech could receive the gigabit speeds when direct wiring his machine, and I can't with mine. I can provides captures of speed tests run and channel settings. I'm just extremely frustrated. Does anyone have any recommendations for the router and/or modem setup? Am I missing something? Oh, and ever since I changed to Gigablast, it constantly says on my account "Service Interrupted" by my Internet package settings on Cox.com. When I asked Cox about this a week ago, the mentioned its because site maintenance was being done, but its still there. I couldn't see it being my personal equipment: 2017 Razer Blade Pro and 2017 Macbook Pro, both of which are 802.11AC iPhone X Game Consoles25KViews0likes6CommentsSuper slow web address resolution on a 300gb line
I've had cox bring a brand new modem/router combo, couldn't get over 50gb on the 5ghz and 20 on the 2.4ghz they didn't even do what the webpage describes as the Professional Install (for 75.00). called cox back and they sent out a tech. He rewired everything from outside and inside the the new modem still couldn't get the speeds up to par. Had to take the equipment back to a nearby store. GIVE them cred here as they refunded the 75.00 install fee. BUT we went back to the 100gb service, the speed tests say we are getting the 100gb speeds for file downloads. BUT any web page we try to go to takes forever to load all except google which loads fine. Any other site the speed is like old dialup. It seems to me and I've been in the computer field since 1969 that they are either slowing things down on purpose or their DNS servers can't keep up. since we have been betrayed by our congress and senate and lost net neutrality the speeds are going to get worse bepending on the content you want to download and/or sites to visit, not to mention streaming. COX are you going to send us all emails on which sites/services you intend to slow down? since my neighbor has century link at a whole 14gb line and her web pages load over 6 times faster than your 100gb line The wife and I might as well switch since we are no longer doing online gamming. It would be a real shame to lose a 15 year customer because of slow webpage loading. As to your phone suopport your LV 1 tech's Need real upgrading. The LV 2 are a bit better. one of the last problems we had was super slow everything, LV 1 said our modem was too old and at fault, calld back to talk to another LV 1 they couldn't find the modem as even being online. the LV 2 couldn't help either it too a LV 3 to solve the problem and about 6 hours. 1 week later speeds back down to 20-30 gb. after the above new modem ect. went back to our modem and our 1900ac nethawk router and back to full speed untill the past week or two and download seems fine but webpage resolution dow to dialup speeds. we quit calling them as the fixes if any only last a few weeks then back to the same problems. I wonder if satelite internet might be an alternitive. This is the Phoenix area I'm talking about.1.2KViews0likes1CommentZip 85209 Mesa AZ--Noise On Backbone
I have hesitated to air this issue here but I believe the seriousness of the issue warrants an explanation of the problem I've been fighting for almost two years. Keep in mind I am located in Mesa, Arizona Zip 85209 and your issue may be totally unrelated unless you live here as well. The issue cropped up around two years ago At that time I was on the 50/5 plan. I noticed slower than normal speeds particularly on the up-link side. I went through the exhaustive Cox phone help with eventual replacement of the modem on two separate occasions. Neither replacement helped my problem. During my many conversations with the phone troubleshooting folks they often commented to me they couldn't "see" my modem and therefore couldn't perform the reset remotely. I found that troubling as that pointed to an issue outside my house. After repeated technical visits to my house where every single connector, coaxial line, and jumper was replaced at least twice the staff then concentrated on the pedestal in the front yard. Some sort of noise was being generated into the pedestal. After confirmation of the noise a Cox network tech (not a sub-contracted company) disconnected the culprit four blocks away from me. Amazingly my service worked normal for the next 24 hours. Unfortunately the problem returned. At this point let me say repeated trouble tickets will eventually get you to a higher level place in line. Even though it is frustrating as a customer to continually report the same problem believe me it eventually gets someones attention. I was contacted three weeks ago from a senior Cox network supervisor who confirmed indeed my problem was noise and it was on their side of the house. Specifically it was noise being generated and as it traveled the up-link side of their network it was being amplified and thrust onto the "backbone" of their network. Needless to say folks this is serious stuff for Cox. I am not the only customer being affected as you can well imagine. I was contacted yesterday, 10/21, by my contact who is just as frustrated as I am. The noise builds but while troubleshooting its state is changed and the noise disappears. When it does the backbone returns to normal activity but the noise will start to build again eventually taking over the up-link (egress) side of their network. I spent my life in communications and therefore know the plight the Cox techs are having here in Mesa, AZ. That's the reason I am sticking with Cox as my background wants to see this through with them and to share both their headaches and eventually joy when they find it. Believe me I have thought about going to Centurylink, their competitor but I refuse to bail now since they are finally on a trail. So, if you live in Mesa, AZ and have experienced the same basic things I have spoken about it may very well be the same noise issue I've had for a very long time.1.1KViews0likes1CommentClueless about phone outage
We lost our internet earlier today, but the phone was still working through the modem. Did a reset and had them send a signal and we got the internet back. 90 minutes later we lost our phone lines. I have a mother with Alzheimer's and the home number is all she remembers. If I call my home #, I get the same message a when I call customer service through a different phone. At a loss considering we were told to contact them if we lost connection again prior to our Monday scheduled appt. Anyone know what's going on?8.3KViews0likes8CommentsCOX in Arizona
I live in Arizona and can't seem to understand the logic of COX airing "prime time" shows on cable at 10 & 11pm? If it's advertised to be on the air at 8, 7 central and it actually comes on at 10pm in Arizona is absolutely ridiculous and there is no reason for this. The money we pay and can't watch prime time tv during a prime time hour is absolutely insane to me. Being a paying customer, why do I get a notice "during" a critical point in a show to tell me if I want to subscribe to the channel I'm watching I can call a number. What? The player was running to the end zone looking back to catch a ball and I get interrupted with this bulletin!!!!!! Really? It be nice to actually hear a "logical" explanation. I don't want this to be a *** session.2.1KViews0likes1CommentSpam - or not?
Why is it that I must mark something as spam every time it appears in my email, when I shouldn't receive any more? I mark it, and they constantly get through anyway! Why have a "Spam" button when it does nothing more than make me click another button? Why doesn't it work? Make it work or take it away, it makes me work twice as much for no results.2KViews0likes0CommentsLaptops over Wi-fi take long time to establish internet connection
This issue has been ongoing for as long as I've had my cox service, and I've even moved to a new location but it persists. It may be related to my Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 modem/router which I've had since day one. The issue: When I boot or wake a laptop that connects via wi-fi, it can take several minutes, sometimes 10-20, before internet access is functional. During this time my phone works fine via wi-fi and my PC on the Ethernet works fine. My phone has no delays establishing a connection, it just seems to affect laptops. Also, if I try refreshing the browser when internet access begins to return, some sites will only load partially (no images) and some websites will load fully while others will be inaccessible. This lasts for about a minute before everything finally is normal. I'd like to resolve this ASAP. We have people bringing laptops over this weekend for Fantasy Football drafting! I can check any settings or run tests after work today. Thanks!2.1KViews0likes2CommentsAmplifier recommendation?
We have been at this location almost 11 years and have had pretty perfect COX signal levels, never below -4. Although after switching to HD /DVR and installing the Scientific Atlanta 8300 boxes...we are as of today on our FIFTH box. FOUR have failed. Anyway, the signal recently dropped to around -8 to -9 and both of our set-top boxes drop and tile, and even straight into the set, the digital channels freeze. We did have COX service out here twice and since the signal into the house was (above -10) they are "within spec". I have a quad-shield RG6 going through the rest of the house with two taps in the path. Hence, the end of line is now below -10. (actually -14). His answer was to replace all the cable in the house. This is where the visit went downhill fast. I was sleeping as I had worked all night from being called in. So he couldn't get in the back. Since he didn't 'get his way' he will NOT come back here (good) and he threatened that if we called anyone from COX back out here we would be charged and they would take our equipment and disconnect us. Ok, go kick sand in someone Else's face. My instinct says ditch COX and go dish, but overall, I am happy with the channels and internet speed. I searched this forum for an answer to this question, but I see questions like this get diverted or quickly locked (censored) by the COX moderator. Any helpwould be greatly appreciated. I am very familiar with higher end products (like Blonder Tongue) but am not familiar with consumer products. Can anyone here recommend a good amp that can be used on a COX residential, drop with obviously NO return path change (don't want to alter ANYTHING going back into their system). Adjustable slope would be nice too. I don't think any consumer low-end product has slope trim. Their slope at the drop is also way off. Adjustable would be ideal, or something fixed around +6 to +10. Thanks in advance everyone !11KViews0likes5CommentsWhy does COX keep charging me for a router I provided?
So apparently when starting service with cox at a new home, and providing them with your own router and modem gives COX the permission to CHARGE you 65$ for your equipment, has anyone else ran into this issue with their service department? I've called 2x, and discussed this issue with them - Now my 3rd bill is here and even after threatening to go to century link...they still charge me for my own equipment!!! Why? Why would they do this? I'm planning to go to century link if the problem isn't resolved but how many times do you have to go through this with this company before they resolve it? Or do they want to lose to century link? Can anyone answer this for me?4.5KViews0likes3Comments
