I take it that e-mail is down again? That would be twice this week (and no, it's not my computer--I can't pull it up via my phone and I also tried web mail as well as Thunderbird). Is there a network status page available like there used to be? And what is going on with e-mail--problems twice in a week like this is very inconvenient.

Yep. Can't get it from either my home PC or tablet. Let me see if the tablet will work from a different network (verizon) ..nope.. so what ever it is, it's at the email server.

Ethereal shows a connection with pop.east.cox.net with a request for user/pass but then falls apart when TLS is being set up.

The old website support.cox.net/networkstatus/viewOutages.do just leads back here. :/ And the live support is slammed. I'm thinking they probably know of the problem by now.
My email has been down for over 3 hours now. I can still access the web, but everything is super slow, and webmail doesn't work at all.
with customer service the way is is -- I even wonder ift they monitor this site. I bet they don't know how wiespread this outage email failure is...
