Discovery Channel repackages some previously aired content with a new episode title and information before releasing it as a new episode. Your DVR receives the "NEW" episode indicator and correctly records it.

Curts right. Shows are categorized in 3 different ways..."live", "new" or "repeat". Unfortunately, when you record a series you're only given the option of "new" or "new and repeats".
I set up a series recording for a show on ESPN and every morning I'd wake up I had 4 copies of the same episode. The first episode that aired at 11:00PM was "live" and the other 3 they'd show from 1:00AM to 6:00AM were listed as "new" instead of "repeat".
