yes & no.
up until last labor day i was on the trip pkg, phone, internet, tv, providing my own netgear router, rated up to 300 on my 150 plan. i wanted to eliminate phone but had been told eliminating the phone wouldn't reduce price. both cox/ookla speeds were in the 80's range for dl.
i called cs, was told i could reduce big bucks by eliminating phone but would need to swap the modem.
panoramic unit was the swap, with 2 reps saving me more than call to cs could deliver.by giving up the phone with bumping me up to 300 ult plan.
when i got home, i noticed the ult 300 plan included the landline i just eliminated + i was now seeing 240+ dl on cox/ookla sites.
at some point i was on the website in chat about something & hte rep offered ult 500, with hbo/showtime, pkg for less than $10/month more.
so the upgrade from whatever technolgy i had in the trip setup before labor day to the panoramic + the savings + getting the landline back, with different number was a great move.
I don't know why you segwayed into prices because it has nothing to do with our original points: "what the mfg tells you the modem will do vs what it actually does, apples/oranges." With my counterpoint being: it's not about the modem but the technology of the modem.
Yes...you upgraded your data plan, removed your older modem, installed a newer modem and...magically...your speed increased. The older modem was probably either a DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0. DOCSIS 3.1 is better than those versions.
However, you've proven my point with the crappy router because your older Dell computers can't connect to it. The Dells probably have either an 802.11g or n NIC but 802.11ac is backwards compatible with 802.11g and n. Why can't a Panoramic 80.11ac router connect to your older laptops? I'm sure a better router could connect the Dells.
If you've been renting at $10 a month for the past year, you could have OWNED your own modem by now.
