So when you changed the imap/smtp server settings in Thunderbird to the Yahoo settings were you able to use auth TLS or did you use the less secure (so i am told) Otah2?
So I am a bit confused as to what "password to use in Thunderbird" use the new Yahoo password or the App generated one? I also cannot see how I can start another thread on this forum..can you help with that and mostly, once I have transitioned how does one sign into this forum if your Cox account is no longer?

This is going to be an unsatisfactory answer, for which I apologize up front. But I'm finding that Yahoo considers Thunderbird to be a somewhat insecure third-party app? So I go to my account on yahoo (security section) and generate a third-party app password.
Then when I open Thunderbird and it asks for a password, I use this third-party app password. Works for me. I also have to use it the first time I send a message from Thunderbird.
I usually leave Thunderbird open on my laptop. But when I need to relaunch it, for whatever reason, I repeat this process all over again.
It's a minor headache (takes about a minute each time), but it works for me.
Good luck.

Sadean--thank you ..as I have 6 cox accounts and use Thunderbird, entering a password each time would be awful..I use PC and iPhone...hopefully someone will have a solution for a setting that would resolve this..

I figured out a lot of the problem, especially the SMTP issues. Then went back to my initial response to Gidgey, toward the beginning of the discussion, and edited in the new stuff. It may help.

Thank you wjeffrey--I did go back and read and I think my issue was that I did not have the Cox.net on all fields- they have to match exact!-I had just names..now that they match Thunderbird with oAuth2 and that stopped the asking for password and other not recognized issues. I did not have to use the App Password from Yahoo but used the new Yahoo password made at transition. Not sure how secure this is but at least I got my email...now to get it on iPhone which I have not been so successful at..thank you for your help.
