If you want to setup and control your Internet, don't use Cox equipment. If you subscribe to Cox Voice, you have to use a Cox telephone modem but other than this, you should purchase your own equipment.
both of you forget to tell this admitted novice that he's got to setup/maintain equipment, you suggest he should buy to replace cox equipment!!

This coming from a Pano-renter who must use his own router to connect devices because Pano won't work with said devices.
For other renters unable to connect their devices to Pano, your only solution has been to replace their other devices! If Pano doesn't work...why rent it?
OP rents Pano but still can't set it up. What's the difference between buying your own equipment and being unable to setup Pano?

oh the shame, oh the shame, what an atrocity, needing to plugin the router for the once/week use of 10 yr old laptop for family zoom session!!
if you're in phoenix, i'll bet $100 you can't setup the pano for use with this old laptop!!

We recommend subscribers to not rent Panoramic. You disapprove of our recommendation because subscribers would then have to provide their own tech support for privately-own equipment.
However, Cox cannot provide tech support for the router because the router is your private network. Cox can't review your settings, assess your settings or change your settings. What's the tech support? The only tech support is to freely replace the Panoramic. This isn't support; this is swaptronics.
Most problems with Panoramic are weak signals, being unable to connect Internet-of-things and older wireless protocols.
Your solution for older protocols is to use your privately-own router. Bottom line: you rent the Panoramic but still have to provide your own tech support. Why not get rid of Panoramic and just use the older router? To use 1 of your previous defenses...your older router appears to be more advanced than Panoramic.
You are absolutely correct about me being unable to connect your older devices to Panoramic; however, you used the wrong verb. It's not I could not...but I would not. Ha-ha, you!
