POP3 or IMAP for Yahoo email transition

What is the basis for the movement (transition) of emails from Cox to Yahoo?  All our current email accounts are POP3 and emails are stored in a .PST database. Will the Cox software just copy emails...

    Any/all emails stored on our server at the time of the transition will be automatically transferred over to Yahoo at that time. If you use POP3 and do not use the "leave a copy of messages on the server" setting on your mail client, then those emails would just be stored on the device that it was downloaded to originally.  Once the transition is completed to Yahoo you can update your POP3 settings listed here https://help.yahoo.com/kb/pop-access-settings-instructions-yahoo-mail-sln4724.html or if you use IMAP here https://help.yahoo.com/kb/devices-sln3697.html
     

    Do not make any server settings changes in your email program prior to the transition as it will not work with the yahoo settings until then. You will receive a final email to let you know that the transition has been completed and then you will just need to follow the instructions in the email to finish the Yahoo transition.

Good idea John and Brian; we are making some progress detailing this best practices here. A document and screen shots would be very helpful. Visuals are very effective and can be developed with minimum effort.  

I am trying to understand how we will access emails the day we receive this “we moved” Cox email (#4 I think). Will cox web mail and MS Outlook receive emails.

Cox wants this transition to be easy. To add more of what Brian shared, our website has a link for more about the cox.net email transitioning to Yahoo here: https://www.cox.com/emailmove. It is mentioned on that article that "After your email has transitioned you will not be able to send or receive email until you log into Yahoo Mail and accept the Terms of Service."

    That is a very important fact (and I missed it). 

    That is a critical decision that Cox made as part of transition. This creates a drop dead event. In other words when the transition occurs, all inbound and outbound email stop. Will Cox provide some event time and date (ex. off hours; Sunday between 2 and 4 am) so we can be prepared to proceed with the Yahoo account setup and terms review.

    Most organizations, alert their staff or customers with specific time and dates when their systems are off line.

    Remember some of us (many) have multiple email addresses, multiple users (who depend on email for work etc. responsibilities, communications, our customers and work flow). And many of us use email on both platforms (web mail and MS Outlook client); we will need to implement two configuration changes for each account.

    What message will individuals sending email to us during this transition? (Ex. "cannot deliver message, recipient not available).

    And as I read more, once this transition begins; it appears we direct our help question to Yahoo?

    Last point, can we get a date and time for this event? Or is this a wait; and then one morning we receive this "we have moved" email; and now we realize that we have been off line some unknow amount of time and we need to hustle to get back on line.

      At this time, there is no detail as to the time or date of when a cox.net will migrate, but Cox will send an email with updates as the migration approaches. If utilizing a client for email and have an issue sending an email, you may sign into myemail.cox.net and attempt to sign in and send an email. Should there be an issue signing into Webmail, then our team of support is available to assist over the phone, or email Cox.Help@cox.com. If there are any issues after the cox.net email is migrated to Yahoo, then Yahoo support would be the team to reach out for further assistance.
