Data use jumping up

Yes it seems to be jumping up again.. it did the same last year at about this time until the modems were updated..I’ve done nothing different, no new devices.. so what’s up with that.

    Freebie? Actually no , I pay for 1024 gigs... it’s called my internet plan .. and I’m not talking about the amount of gigs I get. I was speaking about the sudden jump in usage above the average. This started to happen last year around October and went on for several months that many people complained about in the forum. It was only corrected when modem firmware was updated. Now I see a sudden uptick in data usage again with no explanation.i also use MAC filtering to allow only my devices to connect

@Snik, if you have access to our Panoramic WiFi Gateway modem and app, this allows you to more efficiently track your data usage in the home. This is because the data usage is listed for each device connected to the network. Here are some additional articles available on the Cox website which provide more information about data usage:

Please ensure all devices in the home are free of any malware or viruses. They can use up data without your knowledge. Also, streaming in 4K uses up more data than standard HD. -Kevin M. Cox Support Forum Moderator

You are not making any sense. 1024 GIGS is huge, no way are these people going over.

    Actually you'd be surprised at how fast a TB of data can vanish.   Streaming 4k Movies from Netflix, Vudu, Amazon can eat up a few hundred GB a month.  Couple that with an xbox, or a ps4, or both, at 59-99GB per game and you're at 1TB before you know it.   The truth is, as 4K streaming, and more "streaming" content comes along the faster that data cap gets eaten up.   When you hit 1GB speeds you only need to run close to peak speed for a day and your cap is gone. This is similar to the issues with WFI6 and 5G.

    I know this is about data usage, and you don't need COX's modems to track it.   Get an ASUS or Netgear high-end router (not the $70 ones) and you can see every client on your network, and every byte they're eating up, and you can stop it.   I recently did a data audit because I went over the 1TB and wanted to know why.  I found out the biggest problem was my Xbox and then my work laptop (I deal with medical imaging, and it's a lot of data every day 1-30GB+ 5 days a week)  but with the router's help, I was able to figure out that it was a sync issue with my NAS and One Drive.   Something I hadn't even thought about.  Remote backups eat up data too.
