Hello forum members I've just switched from ATT to Cox recently and have some issues with port forwarding. With ATT: Arris BGW210-700 to Linksys EA6400, Port forwarding has been working on this setup. (ports 7, 9 and 1723)With Cox: Arris S33 to Linksys EA6400, Port forwarding is NOT working on this setup. (ports 7, 9 and 1723) On both setups, the IP address on Linksys EA6400 is changed from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1, so there is no change when I switched from ATT to Cox. The Internet is working with Cox, but the port forwarding is NOT working. Does Cox block the port forwarding? It will be greatly appreciated if you can share your experience.

Interesting combination of ports you're trying to get setup there. 7 and 9 used in conjunction with each other suggest a wake on LAN setup and with 1723 included it sounds like you're attempting some kind of remote access via PPTP which is neither safe or secure but that's another topic. Few things to consider here, How are you testing your port forwards? Are you trying to connect to your router's public IP or dynamic DNS from an external network? Not sure how much experience you have with VPN type stuff but you'll have to do any testing from a network external to your LAN. I'll sometimes hotspot my phone when I find myself in such situations. Is the internal device you're forwarding to configured for static IP or a DHCP reservation? Some routers will not port forward to a device with a purely dynamic IP assignment. Other thoughts to consider, Have you considered perhaps moving to an IPsec based solution? If you're just trying to connect from a single device that moves around frequently this might not be easy but works great for creating persistent connections between 2 networks and is far more secure.

Few questions remaining still, PC1/2: Do these PC's use static IP's or DHCP and if DHCP, are they setup with reservations? WOL: What destination are you sending your WOL requests to? Is is the public IP address of the router or are you using some sort of dynamic DNS solution.

Thanks again. I will try to reset Linksys EA6400 to factory default and set up port forwarding (7, 9 and 1723) again when I get home. And this is the only router that I have now.

Hello, thank you for your comments. I have been using like this for a long time: PC 1: ports 7 and 1723, When there was a power outage, I can wake it up with port 7. PC 2: port 9, I wake up this PC 2, so I know that the port forwarding is always working. I also use web site such as: canyouseeme.org / yougetsignal.com and there is an app on my phone to perform WOL, scan ports, ping, LAN device scan, etc. as well Linksys EA6400 is set with DHCP and dynamic IP when it was on ATT network and it was working. I also have a similar setup in my small office with D3.1 eMTA modem + Linksys E2500 on Spectrum network, and port forwarding is working. I don't know who makes this D3.1 eMTA modem and Spectrum does not provide the IP address for this D3.1 eMTA modem. It is just a straight-through modem. Now, I am going home and check Arris S33 + Linksys EA6400.

You do not port forward on a modem, only the router. The modem is a pass through device, it provides a routable IP address to your router. Make sure you edit your port forwarding on the router to router through the router alone, and completely ignore the modem.

Cox does not block port forwarding. I don't think there is a way with a stand alone modem. Is the port open/working when you connect direct to the S33? If so, do you have another router to try?

Also, why did you change the Linksys IP address? The modem is 192.168.100.1 so there should be no conflict with 192.168.1.1. Do you have more then one router or have a gateway connected anywhere in your network?

  BTW, do you have PPTP passthrough enabled on the router? See page 29 of manual for instructions how.

    As soon as I switch to Arris S33 on Cox network, port forwarding stopped.
    
    IP address on Linksys EA6400 was changed because Arris BGW210-700 had 192.168.1.254.
    
    Yes, PPTP passthrough is enabled on Linksys EA6400, and has been working with Arris BGW210-700 on ATT network.
    
    No change on Linksys EA6400.
    
    Arris BGW210-700 on ATT network was changed to Arris S33 on Cox network, which is the only change.
