After Cox posted the mandatory SSL changes for e-mail I updated my outlook account settings according to the Cox posted support page to "pop.cox.net (995)" for incoming and "smtp.cox.net (465)" for outgoing.
1) My first test after the changes: receiving email worked but not sending.
2) Found somewhere on the Cox support page: if port 465 does not work -> use port 587
3) Changed smtp.cox.net port from 465 to 587 -> sending emails worked.
4) Some days later sending emails stopped working and remained in my outbox.
5) I changed the outgoing server back to port 465 but it still did not work. (and sure I forgot the original port number and was not able to find it anymore on the Cox support portal.
6) Today I called technical support (First level) and was told, it should work with the indicated settings (ports 995/465). If I wanted advanced support I needed to enroll for the programm for an additional $10 ...
7) New google search revealed an answer from Microsoft -> Switch to port 587.
8) Tried that and sending my emails worked again.
Thank you Cox for your excellent technical support!!
