moca 2.0

I would like to use my home coax to get ethernet to the other end of my house. I'm doing that now with powerline bridges but the speed is not great. I might be able to get gigabit speed from moca 2.0 on the coax.

I have an Arris TG1682 modem/router. I enabled moca 2.0 in the router and verified that a Motorola mm1000 worked as expected on the near side of the house. The router saw its mac address and a connected laptop could access the internet. But when I tried it at the other end of the house, I got nothing. I asked Cox support why and they had no clue. I later discovered that our TV boxes will not connect to the Cox network if a Motorola adapter is on the coax. Again Cox support had no explanation.

My question: is Cox actively blocking this and not telling me, or is it something that can be fixed and gotten to work?

Thanks in advance.

If you have Contour 2 TV equipment in your home it is not compatible with MoCA. The MoCA feature in the gateway modem was designed for use with our extenders however this equipment needs to be removed when upgrading to Contour 2 TV.

    Thanks for your reply.

We have a Cisco 9865 TV box. According to the Cisco moca installation guide, there is supposed to be a diagnostic screen showing moca 1.1 (which is backward compatible with moca 2.0). I have not been able to access the diagnostics on my device. You are supposed to hold down the EXIT key until the power light flashes. But that does not work for me. My wife sometimes gets the remote into a mystery state with a red power light. We were told by Cox support to pull the battery. Can you shed light on any of this?

No information is available there unfortunately. I can't speak for the remote either but resetting often fixed many unexplained issues.
