Is it possible to upgrade modem without renting the panoramic?

I bought a new modem and am having a very hard time trying activate it. My family rented a 5mbps speed modem from around 2005-2015 for like $10-15 a month but when we finally bought our own it was very easy to self activate online. This time no matter what I'm trying with the new modem it's directing me towards a shopping cart with their panoramic one, any help?

      Hi is there a way I can get the live chat / Oliver "cox virtual assistant" thing to work before that? Thank you for the quick reply

        I wouldn’t trust the live chat.   I would either call or email.
