there's no splitter... the Coax is plugged directly into the modem from the wall. It's a fairly simple setup that goes directly from the wall to the cable modem to the WiFi router.

Thanks for letting me know. There are no network issues in your area that would be causing these kinds of issues that you are experiencing. Is your modem plugged into a surge protector /UPS or does it go directly into the wall?
