email disappeared from outlook

I regularly check my email at webmail.east.cox.net to reduce the amount of trash and spam that I get. tonight I opened outlook 2019 to download my email; I have outlook set up as POP so that it will not be removed when I use webmail to delete it.  after my email was downloaded I closed outlook and logged back into webmail.east.cox.net to clean up that mailbox so that I will not hit the max usage allotment. after finishing that I opened outlook again only to have my inbox completely empty.

why does Cox always have to mess with my email!!!

I need to get my email restored but the tech support agents are not knowledgeable enough to assist and don't know how to create a ticket and assign them to the exchange admin teams.

this is so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you recently install Outlook 2019?  Meaning, your preference worked on a previous version of Outlook...or a previous install of Outlook 2019?

no its not a new install.  it took me about 30 minutes to get the POP account to take in outlook.

cox webmail is imap & when you delete, it's gone , won't get to pop3 email.

i do the same with all devices setup as imap email, except the pop3 pc.

The distinctions between POP and IMAP get blurred with advanced settings.  POP was designed to remove email from the server but you can opt to override that purpose.  IMAP was designed to sync the server with multiple clients but you can opt to override that purpose.

OP is confused about the protocols because the following statement doesn't make sense:  "I have outlook set up as POP so that it will not be removed when I use webmail to delete it."  If you first download via POP, there's nothing to remove from the server...unless you have a "POP override" enabled in advanced setting to keep it on the server.

OP just needs to review the advanced setting in Outlook.
