I got this email. Is it legit? Hi Member, heads up, we had to lock your account because security flagged some odd behavior. We've taken steps to protect your information and need your help to make sure this doesn't happen again:

    Is this a copy-and-paste of the email?  Did you have to "clean it up" in the subject of your post?  The first sign it's fake is the horrendous grammar.

    Don't click the link.  If you hover your cursor over the link and look at its URL in the lower-right of your browser, it's not a Cox domain.

    That isn't a Cox link.  You need to copy and paste the actual email that you received.

      It might be real but we have to see the actual email that was received in order to verify it because the link isn't a Cox link.

        It's a phishing scam. The link is made to look like Cox but redirects somewhere else. The bad spelling is to get around anti-spam rules. Do you think Cox would spell like that?

    Look at the sender email address. 

    Next, hover the mouse cursor over the link, do NOT click on it. If the link is not the Cox web site, forward the email as an attachment to "Phishingreport@cox.net"

      Just curious what happens when we report something to them?

        A lot of the time, it's a cox residential email address as the sender, it gets shut down till the owner of it calls it to get it unlocked, the pwd changed, and provided security information. Then the url it's trying to get you to go to gets blocked in the Cox system so Cox Customer's who received that email, when they click on the link, it takes them to a 404 page can't be found.

    If all else fails, check if your Cox account is actually locked by logging in via a bookmark or enter cox.com in the address bar.
