Changing cable modems

If I’m just swapping out my existing cable modem for a newer cable modem (I own both), with no change in my Cox service, and I’m not a “gigablast” subscriber, will I need to contact Cox’s TS department? Or is this an action that, assuming my internet service and WiFi network function normally with the new cable modem installed, I can do entirely on my own? Thank you.

As long as the new modem is listed as certified, it should self-activate.  You can troubleshoot here as well.

Thank you Bruce. My new modem is Cox certified and is Docsis 3.0 8x4.

The modem must also meet the minimum requirements for your subscription level and not be assigned to another account. Visit https://bit.ly/2Dhq5TL for a complete list of modems approved for use on our network by tier of service.
