Mini boxes ripping off Economy package subscribers

After all I've read, if you have the Economy package and are not getting all your channels on the mini box,, that is exactly the way Cox wants it....  take the lowest paying customers and charge extra for a full size box just to see the channels you already pay for.  But if you are lucky enough to be able to afford a bigger package (Advanced TV which shoots your bill up $50)  THEN your mini box will work.

Thanks a lot Cox for the scam.

Very dissatisfied customer.

I disagree that the mini boxes get you less channels. The mini boxes are to replace CATV. What channels were you getting on a TV without a box that you can't get with a mini box? Just like if you paid for a box on one TV, you wouldn't get the extra channels on a TV without a box, you won't get the extra channels on a mini box just because you have a full receiver (non mini box) on another TV. This was done so people with non-mini boxes wouldn't swap them out for mini boxes and cost Cox money.

This is something that is debatable, because Cox was actually sued in a class action suit for this very reason. Cox lost, but then the case was over turned. Perhaps one day this will change. I think as all markets go encrypted, Cox will see people with mini boxes open for a possible upsale to premium channels. Short of a firmware patch, there is no technical reason a mini box couldn't get all the channels of a non mini, short of PPV and EOD. Thank you for your comment.

pattykmn,

The Economy pack comes with Starter service and some Essential channels, but not all of them. On the technical side of the service, we trap the Essential Channels outside and allow access to them with a digital receiver. Since a tech has to physically go out and install the trap, this step is sometimes missed and customers receive more channels direct to set than they are in billing for. It's possible this occurred with your service. I can review the account to confirm. Please email me at cox.help@cox.com with the account details and a link to this thread.

Wasn't the whole point of the mini box to get rid of the need of traps and terminators? Encryption was to stop theft and ingress. Why trap something if it's encrypted?
