What does "Cable Out" do on the Cisco 8642HDC? In the manual it only says...
"10 Cable Out Connects to a coaxial cable that sends analog audio and video signals to a TV or VCR"
Is it a straight feed thru of the "Cable In", or is it re-modulated NTSC on Channel 3 or 4?
If the latter, how do you select Ch3 or Ch4? Old boxes simply had a slide switch.

The Cisco 8642HD User's Guide www.cisco.com/web/consumer/support/settop_8642HD.html Back Panel figure on page 4 says: 10 Cable Out - Connects to a coaxial cable that sends analog audio and video signals to a TV or VCR.
I use Cable Out for an old SD TV on Channel 3. Checked all the Home Network DVR settings and don't see a setting for Channel 3/4 selection.

If you managed to get a Channel 3 output I would think you could somehow select alternately Channel 4. (We have a local Channel 3, which makes for "beat-note" bars due to over-the-air interference, if I tried to use Channel 3.)
Anyone know of a secret menu ?:-) that allows setting the output channel?

Cox locks the coaxial output channels to whatever channel the local market does not have an over the air broadcast. However, from reading this thread it sounds as if you do have an over the air broadcast on 3 but you cable box is setup on 3 as well. I will look into a way for you to set this your self.

If you can't change the Cable Out channel and your display does not have input for S-Video Out (8 on Back Panel Figure), Composite Video Out (3), or Component Video Out (5) then you could purchase an "RF Modulator". Search for "Composite Video to RF Converter" , "Composite Video to RF Modulator" , "Component Video to RF Converter", or "Component Video to RF Adapter". They usually allow you to select Channel 3 or 4 output.
The signal quality for video output low to high is: Cable Out, S-Video, Composite Video, Component Video, and HDMI. The Composite devices and cables are cheaper but the Component devices and cables provide better pictures. For comparison see www.youtube.com/watch?v=j29RUYMUSyM . You will be converting Composite / Component to RF which is not as good as either Component or Composite but starting with Component input should provide a better converted picture.

Well. I am glad it was already on the correct channel because I was having a hard time finding a way to change it.
