Upload Speeds drop in the Evening.
Been having some issues as of late. in the evening the upload speeds drop considerably. to the point where my sons can not game online on their ps4. bought a new modem and new router thinking it would solve the issue. then we upgraded to the ultimate package at 300/30. sometime around 7pm every night the upload speeds drop and come back around 10pm or so. all other times speeds seem to be fine. what could it be? have had a tech out and he changed all ends on the cables and signal tests were good at that point. issue still hasn't been resolved. requency start Value This field below allows you to modify the frequency the cable modem start with its scan during initialization and registration. Ok so, i upgraded my services several months ago from preferred to premier. Upgrading to this tier requires a docsis 3 modem as you all know. First day i upgraded my speeds changed from 27/8 to 33/10 average. I was very disappointed. after 2 techs an several hours of phone calls i finally got in touch with someone to fix the issue. it was the "coding" i believe it was worded. Basically they hooked up my modem but didnt adjust the speed form the com center. Bam, i was getting great speed now. One problem, major packet loss. I figured it wasnt that big of an issues as i was getting better upload speeds than before and just wrote it off. Well after comparing voip and video to my parents 25/5 connection with no packet loss, its was a problem. I am a gamer and we spend a considerable amount of time using programs like skype to connect with my family across the US as well as my wife using for conference calls to conduct business. I spent over a decade dealing with internet issues as a teenager living at my parents an was the one who would call and have techs come out. I've never seen this much packet loss and after comparing i got on the phone and started trouble shooting with techs. i have had 3 techs come out for this issue. Things that have been done are running a new line that feeds into the house, one tech added an amp because my signals down where in the -8 and greater range causing some disconnect issues, the last tech to come out got me off the amp stating i didnt need it an that it could be causing the upload packet problem and he also changed splitters and fittings. No luck still. i have seen several of these issues resolved from different things, but all seem to be a long road and a headache. iam inquiring about eatels fiber optics as they are becoming available in my area but before i make a switch i want to give this a valiant effort as my wife loves the tv package we have with dvr that is considerably more money with eatel. Is there a expert team, or a set of procedures to fix this issue or am i just spinning my wheels? any one with a docsis 3 with premier or ultimate getting 0 or very little packet loss? any info at this point would be helpful.16KViews0likes13Commentsatrociously inconsistent upload speeds as well as connection to twitch.
Hey everyone, I've been a cox customer for 3 years now, and I am a affiliate twitch streamer who is just starting to grow my channel in hopes of doing this full time. Now up until about 4 months ago I was streaming to twitch using the premier package and had no problems, then we had a slew of problems in my apartment complex that effected multiple tenants have EXTREMELY low upload (like less than 1 mbps). During this time I tried many many solutions (including upgrading to the ultimate package) however since then, the speeds seem to have leveled out a bit (only on speedtest.net, still a little inconsistent on other tests) and NOW my streaming to twitch is horrendous, I can only dream of streaming at the quality I used to, something seems to be interfering with my connection to twitch and also my upload in general seems all over the place. I've tried BRAND NEW hardware, I've had multiple technicians come out here and tell me that YES there is something wrong but they can't figure it out, even a supervisor came out and told me the same thing this last Thursday. I have spoke with possibly hundreds of different reps and to no avail. I NEED SOME HELP WITH THIS, I am paying for a service from you guys for a reason and I can no longer use the reason I'm paying for this service any longer. The customer service from you guys have been atrocious, constantly giving me the run around, this has been almost 5 months now I've had this same exact problem with NO help, I've had technicians come out BACK to BACK and all tell me that I have a problem but they don't know what to do. now here is a post on reddit with multiple people who have the SAME exact issue as me https://www.reddit.com/r/Twitch/comments/4cmxau/cox_is_throttling_customers_who_stream_on_twitch/ here are some of my speedtests: http://testmy.net/db/cesKgYxOW http://beta.speedtest.net/result/6643836876 http://speedof.me/show.php?img=170921181400-3969.png Now I can upload a test directly from my xbox and my ps4 as well if you'd like and they will show uploads that fluctuate from 7-12. even speedtest seems to fluctuate from like 20-30, but like I said my upload is VERY inconsistent, I had a supervisor named walter that was here last thursday and he understood what twitch is (unlike everyone else I have spoken to) and he plugged directly into my line and said that my uploads were low and even he had no clue what to do. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM IT IS NOT SOMETHING ON MY END.10KViews0likes16CommentsSlow real time upload speed - conflicting speed test results
I'm experiencing slow real time upload speeds. The speed test on Cox website have conflicting results. I've had 8 techs out to my house over the last 4 months and the issue has not been resolved. I am experiencing the same exact issues as user noah82. We are both in Arizona. Here is his thread. http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/13025.aspx9.3KViews0likes34CommentsIssues Streaming to Twitch
Hello, For the last year, I was able to stream flawlessly to twitch and high resolution and bitrate with 100down and 10up connection. The last month or so I've had nothing but terrible frame drops when streaming, even at low bitrates. Can anyone explain what would be causing this all of a sudden? Is my upload being throttled or something? I even updated to the ultimate package to get 150down and 20 up and still have awful and consistent frame drops. I'm not even receiving 100down (that's another issue I have with this "ultimate" package) and am at 16-20 up. I need to get this figured out. If adding the new package isn't fixing the issue, I don't want to pay for it. I've had multiple techs out and last time he replaced the line going from outside my house to the inside because he noticed it was dirty or something. He also said there was an issue with uploads when he hooked up to the pedestal and that a repair crew was needed. I was on vacation for a week so I never got to see if the issue was fixed. They called to confirm we were good and we explained we were out of town. They closed the incident and said to contact them if there were any other issues. I'm tired of going through the same routine with the customer service people. I've reset everything, hooked up directly to my modem, and done everything they've asked probably a dozen times. I feel like my ISP is shaping my upload to Twitch, even though I'm told Cox doesn't do that, but I'm tired of running in circles and have no other choice but to assume that. Any other suggestions? Do I need to have ANOTHER tech out to confirm (at the pedestal) that the upload is clean? Have a higher tier person look at my stuff? Whatever happened in the last few weeks is ruining my streaming and I don't want to have to look for another ISP. >:(7.2KViews0likes18CommentsConstant Upload Problems in Rogers AR
I'm posting here because I'm tired of trying to explain this to Cox Support over the phone. It will be pretty long so please bare with me. This is going on in south Rogers, AR. For the last 3 to 4 weeks I've been noticing issues with the bonded upstream channels, causing my internet connection to time out and occasionally cause the modem to reset automatically. Currently I have 3 upload channels (channels 2, 3 and 4), and out of the 3, channels 3 and 4 are constantly timing out, showing an "Aborted" status within the modem's diagnostics (192.168.100.1). Sometime after Cox does some repairs (assuming somewhere in their distribution), it seems to happen again. It also happens some hours after I have reset the modem via Cox automated and live person calls. It gets worse on the weekends. Now, this is my history with Cox Support: - Some weeks ago, when I called Cox some time after I started noticing the issues, I found out that this area was flagged for an outage. So I waited a day to call again. It seemed to go back to normal for a few days then it started again. - By the second time I called, the support person said that the outage was taken care of and they sent in the tech to check my connection. The tech showed up, very good tech by the way, and proceeded to replace all of my coax connections and splitters (I already have RG6 cable throughout my house). He ran his tests checking for noises and he couldn't see anything wrong within my house. The power levels in the modem improved, so I can testify of the great signals I still have at this point (I work with electronics). After checking all this, he stated that if the problem persisted, that it would most likely be outage related, which I agree 100%. It worked great for a few of days. - This last week it started yet again to drop the 2 channels so I went to buy a new modem to see if it would help. I upgraded from the SB6121 to the SB6141 to get the 8 channels of downstream. I must say, that the internet was working fine before I installed the new modem so I expected it to work after the installation. It worked good for a couple of days until yesterday (10/18/2013). My modem did automatic resets several times. I also did a full factory default reset, just like I've dome some times before in case it helped. I would have internet for less than 1 hour before it would time out again. - So when I called yesterday (10/18/2013), I spoke to support and they stated that my area was flagged for an outage and that someone was out troubleshooting. So I waited until today to check it out. After some time using on the internet, I noticed that it dropped the channels again. My modem has not automatically reset yet. - Here is the info I'm seeing from my modem Please note that the Dowstream channels are working perfectly at 37-38dB Signal to Noise Ratio and 0dBmV Power Levels ------------- Upstream Channels --------------------- Upstream Bonding Channel Value Channel ID 3 2 4 Frequency 28700000 Hz 23700000 Hz 35300000 Hz Ranging Service ID 4250 4250 4250 Symbol Rate 5.120 Msym/sec 2.560 Msym/sec 5.120 Msym/sec Power Level 41 dBmV 41 dBmV 44 dBmV Upstream Modulation [ 6 ] 16QAM [ 6 ] 16QAM [ 6 ] 16QAM Ranging Status Aborted Success Aborted ----------------------- Log Posts ------------------------------ Once the channels go to Aborted status, the log FILLS COMPLETELY with messages like this: Time Priority Code Message Oct 19 2013 18:02:16 3-Critical R02.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:cf;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:15 3-Critical R07.0 Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response - initializing MAC;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:14 3-Critical R02.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:14 3-Critical R07.0 Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response - initializing MAC;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:13 3-Critical R02.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:13 3-Critical R07.0 Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response - initializing MAC;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:12 3-Critical R02.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:12 3-Critical R07.0 Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response - initializing MAC;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:11 3-Critical R02.0 No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; Oct 19 2013 15:32:11 3-Critical R07.0 Unicast Ranging Received Abort Response - initializing MAC;CM-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CMTS-MAC=XX:XX:XX:XX:XX;CM-QOS=1.1;CM-VER=3.0; ------------------------------------------------------------------ With all this said, is there someone in these forums that can help with this issue? Concluding from what the tech said and my opinion, the problem is not within my household, it seems to be withing the Cox infrastructure. I would appreciate it if someone forwards this message to a person that would have good understanding of this situation and could perhaps give an update on what is going on. Thank you!!Solved5.1KViews0likes7CommentsIs cox throttling uploads to twitch.tv
This is really getting out of hand, I googled that exact phrase and I see there are a ton of threads on that very subject both here and on the twitch.tv forums. There is obviously something going on with the connection between twitch.tv and cox. Every time I stream it starts out fine and all of a sudden a few minutes later I start dropping frames and then MY WHOLE INTERNET starts going down. I hardly ever lag in games but when this is happening everything slows. Other websites, games, downloads. Speed tests become random and take forever to complete, sometimes i get 1mb upload others 4mb sometimes even up to 11mb. This is all triggered from streaming on twitch or hitbox for that matter. It appears as if cox is having a hard maintaining constant upload speeds. This has been going on for quite sometime and it's very frustrating because I get a substantial income from entertaining on twitch. Can someone shed any light on this issue?!? I've called cox countless time and it's the same mind numbing spiel. A tech is coming over on Friday but i doubt he'll get anything done. ISPs need more competition, I was such a strong advocate of cox and now I'm considering moving away from them. Sad.4.6KViews0likes2CommentsSlow Upload Speed
I currently have the Internet premier plan. My upload speed is being much slower than it should be (only getting around 2mbps), this was an issue once before and a Cox support guy came out and said nothing was wrong with the lines and that he could do nothing. The issue then went away for around a month shortly after but it is now back. My download speed works perfectly and I have no issues with ping. I have tried directly plugging into the modem directly with ethernet and I still get the same upload speed. This is an issue on all devices connected to the network, they all get excellent download speeds but terrible upload speeds. Router: Netgear Nighthawk, updated to latest firmware Modem: Motorola Surfboard Sb6414, had been reset and restored to defaults multiple times to try to fix Speedtest says this: But my actual upload speed is only around 2 megabits which shows in a testmy.net test4.2KViews0likes3CommentsWhy is my Internet Speed so slow?
I did a speed test on the cox website as well as a website named "Speedtest.net". The results were the same saying we are getting a download speed of 17Mbps and an upload speed of 5Mbps. We are supposed to be getting a download speed of 100Mbps and an upload speed of 20Mbps. This is a significant difference and has been going on for some time. No one else was using the Internet while I preformed this test so I know it is not a bandwidth problem. Can someone help? Thanks.4KViews0likes1CommentTwo-fold. Navigating the website as a power user, what EXACTLY are the services I'm paying for?
It seems its extremely difficult to find out what services I'm paying for. Everything is point-click average dumb (read not technically savy) user want to upgrade? It features plus! technology! Ugh, all those "technology" words are useless to me. I just need to know up/down bandwidth, data cap, specific channel lineup, etc... I purchased an ASUS RT-N66R router, firmware version:3.0.0.4.376_1071-g8696125 to allow for better connection and much faster speeds (and a stronger signal) in my house. So far I had no problems at all connecting the router. But in setting up advanced features, it would be nice to be able to quickly locate at Cox.com what exactly are the upload and download bandwidth speeds I'm paying for. I know I can do a speedtest.net check and see what are my fastest connections (oddly enough, testing out different servers yields wildly different results, but the maximum was close to the max download I know we're paying for, on Cox High Speed premier). I know I know, rambling on when it really should be a simple question, but is there an easier way for a user who is a bit more knowledgable about technology to navigate the website instead of just mindlessly clicking through tons of "upgrade this now" ads?3.5KViews0likes6Comments
