Warning about $5 Tier Upgrade Promo
I'm not the first to write about this... I read another post of a complaint from another customer who was swindled by a Cox upgrade offer. This is clearly written intentionally deceptive. I was offered (in big bold letters) " FREE" tier upgrade from essential to preferred service. It even explicitly stated $0.00 upfront and $0.00 /month ! This offer and order confirmation number appeared in my account but has since been removed. When I call in to confirm the status of the free upgrade, no one knows what I'm talking about, and instead want me to upgrade from paying $35/mo to $52/mo "...this is a great deal", I'm told. I never intended to upgrade in the first place, until this offer appeared on my screen. I thought, after reading the confusing fine print, that "the catch" (because there is always a catch) was that instead of "FREE" as it appeared to be, the increase would cost me $5/mo in additional fees.... $5 DOES NOT EQUAL FREE, By the way. But i figured, okay why not? $5 extra for increase from 5mbps to 25mbps was worth it. BUT NOOO, it aparently means something alltogether different. The cost of the upgrade is actually to pay an increased rate of $50/month (not actually a deal, this is what they already offer on their site to anyone) But instead of charging me $15 extra to open the bandwidth (which I'm sure is just a click of a button) they will only charge me $5 extra to increase my speed and my rate! There is a reason why we switched from COX to DirecTV/AT&T Uverse... unfortunately, I'll have to deal with these deceptive games as UVerse speeds in my area are capped at less than 3mbps (That's another whole story ... they were willing to charge me for 12mbps until i caught on that the distance from our house to their station was too far to reach those speeds) Cox is not "your friend in the digital age" they are the lesser of two evils. They can be allied with to get the internet you want because you have no other choice... but as long as you know what kind of scheming you're getting yourself into.15KViews0likes3CommentsConnection dropping randomly for only a few seconds
My connection drops just enough for me to lose my connection to online games. I just recently upgraded my modem to take advantage of the new Ultimate speeds (300/30). I am currently using an Arris TG2472. I had zero issues with disconnects until switching to this modem. I have it wired (Cat6) directly into my PC's onboard NIC (Killer E2200 on my MSi Gaming 5 motherboard). Sometimes I can go hours without disconnecting, other times it happens multiple times a minute. I've reset the modem many times. I'm unable to determine if my other devices lose connection due to the duration of disconnect being so brief and I'm not always watching them like my main PC. Attached are my modem logs (surprised the tables stayed intact ). Any ideas? I recently received an email from cox referencing their updated Ultimate Plan. Presented with option 1, keeping my current tier 300mb down 30mb up at my current rate but I have to update my modem. Okay. Option 2, 500mb dowload speed 10mb at my current rate as well but i still have to upgrade modem. Okay. Clicked on cox link of approved modems and purchased one. Upon calling cox decide option one or two and to activate my new modem. The rep tells me my bill is going up $15 with my free upgrade? Its bad enough cox lost the RSN sport networks, if internet goes too im afraid my 15 years+ with cox is over. Very dissapointed in Cox Communications Marketing & Sales customer service.5.6KViews0likes13CommentsNIU for phone service
I recently had a new Coax line installed, and the field representative noticed that I still had a NIU that provided my phone service (I installed it myself when I worked for Cox). He stated that I'm going to need to upgrade soon, that Cox was trying to phase those out of their system. Who do I need to contact to have that happen?3.9KViews0likes1CommentUpgrade to Premium FAIL
Cox will not admit the Premium Service Suks. or PSS. Are they trying to shed customers? Search "Premium Speed" and see what I mean. Resolution? They say you need a tech. So they are willing to give up customers to promulgate this charade. One poster said not worth $80 a month. They should be paying me instead of a tech for putting up with this **.2.8KViews0likes4CommentsDOCSIS 2.0 to DOCSIS 3.0
I recently upgraded from an older SB modem (DOCSIS 2.0) To a new DPC-3010 from Cisco. The device provisioned ok and is transferring data but at an alarmingly low speed (1mbps at best) I've swapped out routers and went direct to a PC with no result. Anyone know of any firmware updates and or issues with the DPC-3010? The help desk wasn't a lot of help, they just wanted to roll a truck.2.7KViews0likes2CommentsSelf Install Upgrade question
I upgraded to the 50Mb internet two days ago...or rather I should say I've been trying to. The system shows the order was processed, but now what? The connection is no faster, I've tried shutting down the router, I've gone into it and reset everything, what do I need to do to get the service? I even tried re-adding the faster service, but the system says I already have it (and am probably already paying for it), but I still only connect with IPV4, not 6. I am using a Motorola SB6121 that the website said would work for the speed I'm upgrading to.2.3KViews0likes1CommentUpgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 modem - speed still maxes out at 32mbps
Hi, I just upgraded from a SB5101U DOCSIS 2.0 modem to a SB6141 DOCSIS 3.0 modem. The new modem is operational, but the max download speed I'm getting from all the speed test sites is still just 32mbps....which is exactly the same as the old DOCSIS 2.0 modem. I stumbled upon several forum posts that seem to describe the same issue, and they all made mention of having to check the "modem provisioning" or "service codes" after upgrading from DOCSIS 2.0 -> 3.0 http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/16025.aspx http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/16882.aspx http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/6204.aspx Could somebody take a look to see if my modem is "provisioned" properly and the correct "service codes" are on my account to be able to use a DOCSIS 3.0 modem? Thanks!Solved1.7KViews0likes3CommentsBeware of false advertising on website “upgrades”
Beware of the “upgrade for 50 cents LESS than your current plan” on Cox Upgrade page. Cox is a scam artist. Upgraded for the website price... told me it was actually going to be $20 more than the “50 cents less than your current plan”... like it states on THEIR website... even with the “all-in” pricing - which is a total scam by the way, says it includes equipment and surcharges.. it doesn’t. What Cox is doing is called false advertising, this will be reported to the BBB.674Views0likes2Comments
