New listed phone number and now a lot scam calls using spoofed phone numbers.
I just got a Cox landline phone because I was tired to being dependent on just my cell phone, and I made the mistake of going the cheap route and allowing my phone number to be listed rather than unlisted. My question is how to make it an unlisted number now? I don't see that option under my Account options. And plus, now this number is out there with my name on it. The callers are specifically calling me and asking for me by name. So they already have the information. And it seems to be the same group of callers, all obviously scams, using spoofed phone numbers, and trying to sell me an ADT security plan that is most likely fake. They want me credit card information, and of course, I'm not dumb enough to give it to them. I have used Cox's ability to block specific numbers from calling me, and each time they call me from a new spoofed number, I immediately block them from calling me again, but they keep generating new spoofed numbers to call me. How many numbers can I add to my blocked phone numbers' list? I hope I don't run out of blocked number slots for all these incoming calls. I put this number on the Do Not Call Registry, but I've heard it does very little good anyways. So, anyways, I'm not a pleased customer at this point. I mainly use this landline number to make calls to friends, business associates, etc., but I can see that I will still have to rely on my cell phone for receiving calls, because I'll eventually have to just turn the ringer off of my landline phone and let all the calls go to my answering machine. What a pain in the neck! It has been such a long time since I had a landline phone that I had forgotten why I got rid of it in the first place. And now it seems like it is even worse than before. Tons of sales calls, and tons of outright scam calls. Luckily, I don't fall for any of them, but it makes my phone almost worthless. My cell phone is unlisted, thankfully.Solved11KViews0likes7CommentsCox landline receiving spoofed calls from my cell phone #
I can only assume this is some sort of caller id spoofing, but why? Today, as I was going out, our cox landline rang. I glanced at the caller id and was annoyed to see my own cell phone number listed as being the caller. I picked up and gave them an earful then hung up. They called right back and didn't say a thing. They did not call a third time, as that is legal harassment, and whoever it was is considerate like that... I can not block my own number! I can't access the cox online phone records either. What is going on? additional info: My cell number was on the caller id without an area code listed, so it just looked local. Why or how would a overseas scammer bother linking up my cell phone with the cox landline, which is not even in my name, but my husbands? Very strange. If I had not been home at the time, my husband would have answered rightfully thinking it was I who was calling, so they are not only spoofing my number, but possibly impersonating myself. Why?8KViews0likes6CommentsAre you ever going to do anything about spoofed scam calls?
When I get scam or telemarketer calls from a real number I can block them or forward them to an extra number that I never use for anything other than scam callers. They get to listen to an annoying 3 minute long voicemail message that very few stay on the phone long enough to leave a voicemail for me. But with spoofed numbers it does no good because they never call back from that same number again anyways. While I like the convenience of a landline phone, I am reaching a point of just cancelling it so I don't have to hear my phone ring 8 times a day from some scammer saying my social security number has been compromised and they are coming to arrest me unless I pay them with gift cards over the phone. It is obviously a scam, but I can't stop them from calling through because they never call from the same phone number twice. And if I call their number back it is either a number that does not exist or it is some innocent person that has no idea what I am talking about because they did not call me from that number. And nomorobo is a big flop. I have it and it catches maybe one or two scam calls per day, but about 90% of scam calls are never detected by it with its simultaneous ring. If you want people to keep paying you for your landline phone service you had better get serious about stopping spoofed numbers from calling us.1.9KViews0likes5Comments
