I don't think Cox even has spam detection any longer because it no longer detects any spam that even my old Windows Live Mail can detect and place in the junk folder. So I have been trying to use the filters to prevent downloading of spam to my email client. Spammers use a different email address each time so blocking or filtering the "from" won't work. The body is either in HTML or a photo with the ad so nothing to filter there. So I was hoping I could filter out by detecting certain words that frequently appear in the subject line. Well, seems that is useless as well. For instance, I see the word military in the subject line often so I set a rule to filter any incoming emails containing military in the subject line. Well that doesn't work because it seems spammers can use some tricks to prevent this. Although the word appears to be "military" spelled correctly, when I forward to Cox spam report, the spell checker in my email client flags that word and every other word in the subject line as spelled wrong. It looks something like this in the forwarded email: m_ili_t_ar_y. Every other word is broken up with either a _ or ? as well, although in the incoming email it looks perfectly normal. Can someone explain what is going on and is there any way to defeat this trick?1.1KViews0likes4CommentsExcessive spam
Your spam filters don't work. I have been inundated with spam for the last few weeks, hundreds a day, I waste more time marking emails as spam than I do reading my actual emails. Why have the option of marking something as spam when you continue to get them? I thought if you marked something as spam you wouldn't get emails from that address anymore. Apparently that is not true. Please fix this. I am using webmail3.6KViews0likes8Commentserror moving emails to other folders
When I try to mark the 20-30 daily spam emails as spam I get an error message that reads “The message you requested is unavailable. It may already have been deleted or moved from this folder.” I actually get that message when I try to delete a message as well. Also, I don’t think the SPAM FILTER is working at all. EVER!1.3KViews0likes0CommentsWhy can't Cox Spam filter figure out that something with a 2022 send date is spam?
I just got an e-mail that had a 2022 send date on it and Cox let it through! Anything more than two days ahead is spam, even with the international date line. We're in 2018 and the spam filter programmers haven't figured that out yet?1.2KViews0likes2CommentsSerious false positive issue with spam filter
After recently becoming aware that legitimate mail is being miscategorized as spam, I changed my spam filter policy to have all mail tagged by the Cox spam filter directed to my inbox so I could see the extent of the problem. I was amazed that will over half of the spam-tagged mail was legitimate! This is totally unacceptable behavior. I suspect that many users, not wanting to be bothered by spam, have their filter policy set to delete all tagged spam at the server, as I had. They would be shocked if they knew how much legitimate mail is not getting through to them. I have yet to see Cox make an announcement or warning that their filter is failing with so many false positives, and recommending that users do not use the auto delete policy. I understand that identifying spam can never be a precise process. However, when the algorithms have such a high failure rate, it is unconscionable not to warn users of the problem.
