Game Lag
I am experiencing a lot of game lag when online. Every once in a while I have a few online games that are outstanding but only for a short while on days that don't come too often. I have everything hard wired for my Xbox 360 and I'm running an AC router for the speed. The router doesn't seem to be the problem since I have the same issue when wired directly to my modem. I have Cox premier internet residential service. When playing online it seems as if the info passing through the pipe hits the Cox server and takes a short time to be processed and passed on to me. I upgraded my service plan to the premier but haven't noticed any substantial improvement in my gaming. When connected directly to my modem my speeds average over 100 down and over 30 up. Good speed but it makes no difference with the game lag. Without the lag I can dominate when playing online but for most days and for now there's too much lag to do much good. It's very frustrating to say the least. Any ideas would be appreciated.17KViews0likes10Commentsupload packet loss 15-25% please help.
Ok so, i upgraded my services several months ago from preferred to premier. Upgrading to this tier requires a docsis 3 modem as you all know. First day i upgraded my speeds changed from 27/8 to 33/10 average. I was very disappointed. after 2 techs an several hours of phone calls i finally got in touch with someone to fix the issue. it was the "coding" i believe it was worded. Basically they hooked up my modem but didnt adjust the speed form the com center. Bam, i was getting great speed now. One problem, major packet loss. I figured it wasnt that big of an issues as i was getting better upload speeds than before and just wrote it off. Well after comparing voip and video to my parents 25/5 connection with no packet loss, its was a problem. I am a gamer and we spend a considerable amount of time using programs like skype to connect with my family across the US as well as my wife using for conference calls to conduct business. I spent over a decade dealing with internet issues as a teenager living at my parents an was the one who would call and have techs come out. I've never seen this much packet loss and after comparing i got on the phone and started trouble shooting with techs. i have had 3 techs come out for this issue. Things that have been done are running a new line that feeds into the house, one tech added an amp because my signals down where in the -8 and greater range causing some disconnect issues, the last tech to come out got me off the amp stating i didnt need it an that it could be causing the upload packet problem and he also changed splitters and fittings. No luck still. i have seen several of these issues resolved from different things, but all seem to be a long road and a headache. iam inquiring about eatels fiber optics as they are becoming available in my area but before i make a switch i want to give this a valiant effort as my wife loves the tv package we have with dvr that is considerably more money with eatel. Is there a expert team, or a set of procedures to fix this issue or am i just spinning my wheels? any one with a docsis 3 with premier or ultimate getting 0 or very little packet loss? any info at this point would be helpful.16KViews0likes13CommentsDisconnects, resets, latency spikes?
I've noticed for (at least) a few weeks now that packet latency occasionally spikes (against, say, cox DNS servers or linux.org). I also experience intermittent disconnects. Believing this may have been caused by my router or by my cable modem I upgraded to an SBG6850 last Sunday, retiring an old Linksys WRT router and a DOCSIS2. While I now get slightly higher up/down rates (average of 18 down 22 up instead of 18 down 5 up.) Unfortunately, I am still experiencing latency spikes, and I am still occasionally disconnected from the internet. I am a self-employed software engineer as such I work from home 90% of the time, so I routinely have RDP sessions open against AWS, to remote offices, machiines local to my network and VMs. Thus, when the internet here "hiccups" I notice, every day, I was really hoping to have solved this problem by upgrading to a modem rated for the service level I am paying for (I am a Premier Internet subscriber.) The last straw for me was today when the internet disconnected in the middle of a code push up to github, talk about horrible timing :( right? I don't feel that upgrading to Ultimate is going to solve my problem, so, what can I do to resolve this issue? As an aside, these "hiccups" also interrupt my tv and movie streaming, video game performance, bitcoin mining, etc which is why I pay for Premier service, I don't want to see "buffering 0%" every time I watch a movie :( If it's a matter of throwing more money at Cox just tell me where to go so I can be done with it. Otherwise, let me know what info I can give you to help resolve the issue. I really want a consistently stable experience, as it stands I have not experienced a single problem-free day in what feels like 5 weeks or more.9.2KViews0likes12CommentsSplitters for other device for splitting main line to modems and TV
We’re replacing the coaxial cable run from our Condo’s utility/ equipment room where Coax Cable connects to our attic. The main line coax run from the utility/ equipment into the attic is 100 to 125 feet. Please let me know what splitter or devices I should use to connect the main coax line in my attic (Belden 7195a RG6 coax main line) to: (1) Cox Phone Modem, (2) Cox Internet Modem, and (3) Single TV downstairs. Also, does a 2-way or 3-way splitter create less signal loss: Option (1) 2-way splitter unbalanced to the main line (with one side to the TV downstairs and one side to a second 2-way splitter going to the Modems) or Option (2) 3-way splitter (with low loss side connected to longer coax run to TV and the other two sides going to the modems) or Option (3) Suggestion for a better option(s) For small fee, the contractor will my Belden 7195a RG6 along with their RG11 CommScope 4818803 F11TSEF (830BMU). Cox recommended I have a dual line going to my attic in case of damage and my research shows the Belden 7195a is a good solid core tri-shield cable. Also, what Brand splitter(s) do you recommend and do you recommend an inline coax surge protector? I’ve been considering the Extreme Broadband BDS102H and BDS103H. So when I first got my xbox one and did speed test through the console I was getting 100+ DL 20+ upload. I have the premium service so I was happy all is good. In the last few months I have more drops from games my latency is higher on the xbox. When I do tests from my PC all is good? Are they throttling specific services now? If that is BS since I am paying for the top tier....Solved6.4KViews0likes4CommentsInternet Premier getting me 25-30 Mbps
I have been checking my speed on speedtest.net and consistently averaging between 25-30 Mbps and 5-6 upload speed. I have been running the tests from a wired computer. I understand that the 50 Mbps is not guaranteed and is affected by many factors, but I would expect it would be at least a little closer to my cap and not nearly 20 Mbps off. Doing a few google searches of the cox internet support forum I noticed some other people with similar problems to mine have had issues with their accounts that cox support was able to resolve on their end. I am wondering if that is the same issue with my account? If so I would appreciate it if a cox support specialist could assist me with the problem. Could it be my modem, i currently am using a motorola SB5101N surfboard cable modem. I would appreciate any feedback or help i can get..4.7KViews0likes8CommentsNot getting close to my 50 Mbps download limit
Hello, I signed up for the cox internet premier internet service with 50 Mbps download speed and 10 Mbps upload last Wednesday. After a few speed tests over the past 3 days I've noticed that while my upload speed is excellent (around 12-13 Mbps) my download peaks at about 32 Mbps. Otherwise I wonder if it could be my modem? I am currently using a ARRIS / Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, which was listed on the cox website as being compatible with the premier internet package. If there is no problem with my account I could look into trying a different modem, or perhaps calling my local branch to see if there's a problem with my lines or something. Thanks in advance4.5KViews0likes5CommentsARRIS / Motorola SurfBoard SB6141
I am going to have cox service set up in the near future and would like to purchase this modem, but I have seen connectivity issues associated with this modem on other providers. I was wondering if there have been any issues on Cox in the Oklahoma City area when using this modem ? I will be using the "Cox Internet Premier", no tv or phone services. Thanks in advance for the assistance.Solved4.4KViews0likes1CommentNot getting speed I signed up for?
I ordered the premier internet plan 2 days ago and it was fully activated today. My issue is that I'm not getting the download speed even close to 50 Mbps, the highest I got was 2500 Kbps and was for a couple seconds. Right now I'm normally getting between 150 Kbps and 1 Mbps, that's the speed I was getting with Uverse which is a lot cheaper. I have a way higher upload speed than download speed .
