still not solved: Since 5/26, speeds are nearly half what they were
i don't know who posted my last post as solved but it is not: Cox is at it again. I go the overnight "push upgrade" to my Modem, a motorola SB6121, which killed it. I then Power Cycled everything in the house, and now were I was getting 105mbps down and 23mbps up consistent, I now get 64mbps down and 17mbps up. I am on Premier. I called cox, and they sent a re-provision 2 my modem, but three speed tests later, I'm getting the same thing. No where near the 100mbps I'm supposed to be paying for a month. I have been battling an intermittent internet speed problem for the past month or so. I've had 3 visits from Cox technicians so far. As incremental changes are made by the Cox technicians and myself, the speeds are getting faster and more consistent (according to a 5-minute periodic test I've been running from TestMy.net). However, I am still stuck with the apparent inability to bond 4 upstream channels on my Cisco DPQ3212C cable modem. Below are my statistics (including my MAC address so you can identify me). This is my ping test between my PC and modem/router. I purchased the Netgear CG4500BD and I never had a problem with it before. However, after moving to a new apartment and upgrading my internet package from Preferred to Premier, I have this latency issue. Even after Cox Speed Test, I still have issue when I'm watching a live stream videos such as Netflix and such. Is there any fix to this? By the way, I'm hard wired from my PC to the modem/router with a Cat6 Ethernet cable. I'm not sure if that will affect by any chance. PLEASE, let me know what I can do! Just wondering why cox does not offer equal download and upload speeds. Would the price be crazy? currently I have the prefered internet package and its 50mbps download and only 5mbps upload. Ultimate and Premiere offer 25mbps upload but why only that much? and why such a difference from the prefered package would be a bit nicer to pay for 50mbps download and at least 10mbps upload. It seems its extremely difficult to find out what services I'm paying for. Everything is point-click average dumb (read not technically savy) user want to upgrade? It features plus! technology! Ugh, all those "technology" words are useless to me. I just need to know up/down bandwidth, data cap, specific channel lineup, etc... I purchased an ASUS RT-N66R router, firmware version:3.0.0.4.376_1071-g8696125 to allow for better connection and much faster speeds (and a stronger signal) in my house. So far I had no problems at all connecting the router. But in setting up advanced features, it would be nice to be able to quickly locate at Cox.com what exactly are the upload and download bandwidth speeds I'm paying for. I know I can do a speedtest.net check and see what are my fastest connections (oddly enough, testing out different servers yields wildly different results, but the maximum was close to the max download I know we're paying for, on Cox High Speed premier). We’re replacing the coaxial cable run from our Condo’s utility/ equipment room where Coax Cable connects to our attic. The main line coax run from the utility/ equipment into the attic is 100 to 125 feet. Please let me know what splitter or devices I should use to connect the main coax line in my attic (Belden 7195a RG6 coax main line) to: (1) Cox Phone Modem, (2) Cox Internet Modem, and (3) Single TV downstairs. Also, does a 2-way or 3-way splitter create less signal loss: Option (1) 2-way splitter unbalanced to the main line (with one side to the TV downstairs and one side to a second 2-way splitter going to the Modems) or Option (2) 3-way splitter (with low loss side connected to longer coax run to TV and the other two sides going to the modems) or Option (3) Suggestion for a better option(s) For small fee, the contractor will my Belden 7195a RG6 along with their RG11 CommScope 4818803 F11TSEF (830BMU). Cox recommended I have a dual line going to my attic in case of damage and my research shows the Belden 7195a is a good solid core tri-shield cable. Also, what Brand splitter(s) do you recommend and do you recommend an inline coax surge protector? I’ve been considering the Extreme Broadband BDS102H and BDS103H. Main question: Why am I getting less than half the internet speed I am paying for? 40 mbps when I'm paying for 100? Doesn't seem correct. So when I first had Cox installed, my usual internet speeds were coming in at a consistent 110 mbps or higher. It's been about 2 to 3 months since and I've just recently started experiencing issues. It started with being kicked off of servers while doing some online gaming. This made me curious so I did a few internet speed tests. They were coming back very inconsistent. They ranged all the way from 15 mbps - 50 mbps. The majority of the speed tests were coming around 40 mbps. I called Cox a few times and was told many different things. One Cox tech rep mentioned my modem had many errors rolling through and they weren't being corrected by the modem. He recommended me getting a new modem so I did so. Doesn't seem to have helped much. But I'm now getting a consistent 40 mbps. The fact that it's consistent makes me feel somewhat relieved but I still feel I should be getting more for what I pay for. I understand the speed I'm paying for isn't needed for most households but I like to be sure I have a consistent high speed for gaming, streaming, and downloading. And I'm not. I am a Cox Internet Premier user in North San Diego County, CA. For the past month or so, my router/gateway (Netgear N450/CG300Dv2) has been dropping my connection at intervals varying from 8 to 24 hours, then reconnecting at near full download speeds, but often with reduced upload bandwidth. Logging into the router, the connection tab shows that I'm only connecting to one of four upload channels after the reset. I've done several tests with Cox technical support on the phone; I've even replaced my Netgear N450 (twice!) and yet the issue persists. I have an appointment scheduled for a technician visit next week, but I've had my lines checked and repaired at least three times over the past year and I'm getting frustrated with the lack of reliability in the wake of all I've done.
