Cox is throttling speeds of DOCSIS 3.0 modems
I used tohave250-350Mbps down 2 years ago but Cox has throttled down some older DOCSIS 3.0 modems to only have access to the essential 150mbps speed. If Cox didn't have a monopoly on internet service providers in my area I'd switch ASAP. Probably just trying to sell more of their junk modem rentals to unwitting customers and take advantage of their lack of knowledge.2KViews2likes11CommentsIntermittent upload speeds
I have been reporting issues with intermittentchoked upload speeds over the past few months. I have since upgraded to a new DOCSIS 3.1 modem, purchased a new NIC (desktop), cross-referenced the same issue with different network cables to my laptop NIC (old and new modem). Same results. The issue seems to be more prevalent during the evening and weekends. A work friend also has the same package, lives in the same region (different node), but has seen no issues. Additionally, when I'm having the issue, we test the same speed checks (Cox site-NOLA, ATL, and Speedtest.net -various endpoints) to the same endpoints, with different uploads. Usually, I'll average right under 10Mbps (sometimes lower), when he has a consistent 20-30Mbps. I completely understand that servers vary with available bandwidth, but the results have been too inconsistent between 2 different Cox modems. This is NOT an equipment issue, but potentially a residential line issue or similar at the tap/node. Several technicians have come out to my residence, all testing appropriate speeds from each modem at the time. One technician did replace some older configurations at the junction box outside the home, but this has not helped. Another technician scheduled for a line technician to come out, which happened today. Unfortunately, this was a contractor who had another modem to replace and no history of work orders. He was at the house all but 5 minutes and left without saying a word. This contractor also debating with me at my doorstep, saying that I'm only guaranteed 1/10th of the upload speeds. I will be calling in AGAIN to report the same issues this evening, but it's doubtful anyone will do anything other than noting my account I have "internet issues". Very dissatisfied is an understatement.1.4KViews1like0CommentsCox internet issues in my home
I have lived in my home for 3 years. I have always had the gigablast internet with unlimited data. I have also always had issues with my speed and connection. Never getting above 300Mbps down. I have contacted customer service in the past regarding the issues nothing ever gets solved so I am posting for others to be weary. For the last 3 years I have had panoramic WiFi and over the last several months my panoramic router just keeps dropping the connection. Then it boots back up and I have to manually reset it to get my smart devices and things to connect again. I was sick of it. So I went to Best Buy and bought a new Netgear modem and a top tier router. All Docsis 3.1 capable and and gigabit download capable. I am still only getting speeds in the 300Mbps down. But at least with my new Linksys gaming router and this new modem all my devices will auto reconnect which is something they would not do before. I am super frustrated and I may just switch my ISP. I hear OEC now offers fiber in my area.I feel lied to and cheated by Cox. I have tried every speed test site out there I have disabled WiFi and connected directly to the modem and done speed test still never better than 350Mbps down. I have tried those same test at different times still no improvement. Why have I been paying for gigablast if I never get those speeds. If anyone knows of any way to resolve this issue I am open to suggestions. I am tired of having to rest my modem or router and I am tired of my connection always randomly dropping and booting back up at all time of the day and night. Any help is greatly appreciated.1.2KViews1like0CommentsOver billed for Internet usuage
For the last 3 months I have been over billed because my internet usage has suddenly been going over even though I haven't changed nothing as far as my personal usage on the internet. Coxs usage meter is BS no one has hacked into my internet at all infact the last month or two I have even used less internet and it still goes over. Anyone else having these problems with Cox?900Views1like4CommentsCox Cable internet is garbage. I don't know why.
When using a separate modem and router, I ping about 25-30 ms to LA. It randomly spikes to over 300 very frequently. When I take away the router and just use the modem, I get the same results. Cox told me to get a new modem, so I did. Same problems. Cox sends a tech out, they say they fixed whatever was wrong. Still get the same results. Can't get stable ping as the ONLY device on the connection. I am properly confused.3.7KViews1like8Comments
