New Technicolor CGM4331COM Gateway for Cox / Wi-Fi 6 Gateway
I've seen a new Technicolor CGM4331COM gateway mentioned for Xfinity (link below). Does anyone know whether this hardware will also be adopted by Cox in the near future? It seems like Xfinity has already started rolling this new equipment out to customers. Or is there any other updated gateway on the horizon for Cox? To me the Cox network seems to have some serious deficiencies with IPv6. I've seen some evidence that the current CGM4141 gateway may be part of the issue (I see many "FW.IPv6 FORWARD drops" and "FW.IPv6 INPUT drops" that coincide with my spotty internet performance). Coxshould have a new gateway in the works that mitigates this. I imagine they'll need to put out something with Wi-Fi 6 by the end of 2020. While Wi-Fi 6 isn't my main interest, I'm hoping they'll use this as an opportunityto correct the issues with IPv6 and the firewall. Why is it impossible to get cox to provide firmware updates to modems? The Arris SB8200 is listed as a GigaBlast modem. Many chats later and I had one tech tell me that it "would be very illegal for Cox to control the firmware on the MODEM". Obviously, that is not the case because the cable provider is responsible for controlling the firmware that is at the gateway. I don't even have the ability to do that as a consumer. Hello, I just finished installing Gigblast wifi today, and my wireless internet works fine. However, when trying to connect the included ethernet cable to my laptop, my laptop says it connects successfully with internet access, but it is so slow that I can not load any pages. I have tried many possible fixes, such as flushing my DNS cache, re-installing my ethernet driver on my computer, restarting the gateway, and disabling my firewall, but nothing has worked so far. Windows network status says that I am connected to the internet. For a full list of things I've tried (probably not exhaustive either)... I am using a SBG580 wireless cable modem gateway to connect to the Cox network. I recently purchased a Netgear 2100 gateway and an Asus wifi 6 AP. I want to disable the gateway/router functions from the SBG6580 and have the Netgate 2100 do those functions. I should be able to accomplish this if I set the SBG6580 to act as a bridge device and Cox registers a MAC address for public IP assignment. I have setup the SBG6580 in the following way to do this: Changed "Primary Network Only Mode" from "routed" to "bridged". The docs say when it is set to bridged it "Disables the network address and port translation settings on the gateway." This is the only setting I have on the device to change routing/NATP functions on the WAN side. Disabled DHCP Disabled WiFi On the Netgate I set the WAN port to request DHCP addressing, and also I have set the MAC address to the HFC MAC address of the SBG6580, the same MAC address that Cox has registered to allow my device to operate on their network. When I boot up the devices, the Netgate doesn't get assigned an IP address. Additionally theSBG6580 still requests a public DHCP address and gets one assigned to it. Is this because when I first connected the device to the Cox network I gave them the HFC MAC, the SBG6580 boots up, Cox sees that MAC and assigns the IP? I have tried to release the DHCP lease, then reboot the Netgate to see if it will get assigned a DHCP address, but that does not work even though the SBG6580 does release the IP. I have tried to get the native MAC address of the Netgate registered so that it can request a public IP address. I have called and live chatted with customer service several times so far to tell them I have a new device on my network that I would like registered so that it can get assigned at public IP address, but they have not been of any help so far. When I ask to speak to the next tier of customer service, they attempt to upsell me to "preferred customer service" package at additional cost, or they try to upsell me Cox Panoramic WiFi gateways. Has anyone reading this ever successfully setup a home network that simply uses the cable modem as modem only with a router on their home network. This is not a crazy setup at all, but Cox seems to want to prevent this from happening so they can sell me equpiment I guess? How can I explain to customer service what I want to do because none of them seem to have any comprehension that a cable modem does not need to be the wireless gateway. I recently upgraded to the Arris SBG8300, whichis capable of32 downstream channels and 8 upstream channels. All 32 downstream channels are bonding, however, only 4 upstream channels are showing up in the gateway control panel. Would someone please be able to tell me if Cox has a limitation of 4 upstream channels or can this be changed by request? I have gone around and around with technical support and they don't have a clue. I was asking them to transfer my ticket to the Engineering department but they scheduled an appointment for a technician to come out and investigate. i think this website should be stickied at the top of the forum with the others https://www.badmodems.com/ start at the 'whats the issue?' page the amount of modems / gateways out there with the intel puma 5/6/7 is unreal. i actually upgraded from one intel puma to another. i didnt start seeing real stable, consistent internet until i migrated to a broadcom chipset based modem. if youre really too lazy to read the link. millions and millions of modems out in the wild feature a chipset by intel named the puma that is absolute dog water for any type of jitter or latency sensitive application. the chance that youre on one right now is pretty high.330Views0likes0Comments
