Unexplained Sudden Seriously High Data Usage
Right about the same time I received a letter from Cox indicating the 1TB data cap, my daily data usage suddenly skyrocketed from about 5G per day for the past year, to 40-70G per day! We haven't changed any habits or added any devices or people. We don't live close enough for any neighbors to scam off our wifi .Cox support can't help me, but I'm about to be charged $20 PER DAY for the next 9 days of my billing cycle unless I shut everything off completely (since we have NO IDEA WHERE ON EARTH we could be using that much data. Its borderline impossible. I would have to stream 24 hours straight of HD Netflix to use 70G! I feel like Cox is sandbagging the data tracker. The timing is pretty convenient !3KViews0likes3CommentsScam popup from showcyber.com on google chrome/iphone
This morning at 6:53 I received a pop-up in my Chrome browser on my iPhone in a white box with the following message: www.showcyber.com says: Congratulations Cox Communications Customer! Your iPhone has been randomly selected to receive a $1000 Gift Card! OK There was no option to close the box or decline the supposed offer, or even close the window. I had to delete the Chrome app and reinstall it. has anyone else had this experience? Thanks,3.1KViews0likes1CommentCox 'Survey'?
I got a page pop up in my Google Chrome browser calling itself a 'Survey', addressing me as 'Dear Cox User' not by name The image insert tools 'cannot load plugin' so I can't show the page. but below is the actual 'URL' from which it came. I did not follow the 'survey' as it just 'smells bad'. Does anyone know if this is real or just another data mining phishing tool? http://satisfaction-surveys.org/13/index_b9_us.php?ua=Mozilla%2F5.0%20%28Windows%20NT%2010.0%3B%20Win64%3B%20x64%29%20AppleWebKit%2F537.36%20%28KHTML%2C%20like%20Gecko%29%20Chrome%2F54.0.2840.50%20Safari%2F537.36&browserversion=Chrome%2054&city=Scottsdale&country=US&device=DESKTOP&isp=Cox%20Communications%20inc.&ip=70.162.62.153&os=Windows&osversion=Windows%2010&browser=Chrome&target=%5BCATEGORYID%5D&type=&match=&voluumdata=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&PLACEMENTID=30622&KEYWORD=[KEYWORD]&CATEGORYID=[CATEGORYID]&voluum-cid={voluum-cid}#mce_temp_url#2KViews0likes2CommentsPort forwarding on DPC 3825 Cisco Gateway
Why does Cox not allow port forwarding on the Cisco DPC 3825 gateway? You can't even update the firmware because that's under Cox control too. As I see it it's simply a way for Cox to make more money by making you purchase the premium tech support for $100 and so much a month thereafter or a one time $60 to set it up for you. For $180 a month I'm not paying more money. I feel like I'm being ripped off! Here's what happens... log into gateway>applications and gaming>port range forwarding>enter external start and end port, internal ip address, start and end port, enable and click save. Pop up stating "The page at 192.168.0.1 says: the setting of port must between 1~65,535: 0" . I certainly didn't try all 65535 port numbers but any number I did try didn't work. What gives? Anyone else have a problem with this?5.7KViews0likes3CommentsSpam protector does not work
I received a phishing scam in my email today. Tried to forward it to the company being implicated. When I tried to forward it, the Cox web email recognizes it as spam and won't let me forward. Which begs the question, why did the *** did it reach me in the first place?1.9KViews0likes1CommentI've got a bill with charges I have not asked for and have not received. Am I alone?
I just received a first bill... I have ordered Internet online and it should cost me $49.99 with ZERO activation fee. Cox promised it on their site. They stated that they prepared a self-activation kit for pick up at their location (without any fee). In fact I do not need any kit from them and I do not know what it is and even do not want to know what it is, because I do not need it. I already have all hardware necessary to connect to their network. I called to check the status of the order and to tell them I do not need any activation kit, they told me that everything is Ok and I could activate the service soon. I activated it successfully and everything was Ok until I got the first bill. They charged me for the "Intenet activation Kit" - $30. You remember, they promised it would be free. You remember I do not need it. You remember, I have not received it. They charged me for "WiFi Modem - Dual Band Rental" - $9.99. I did not ask them for any modems. I have my own modem. They have not provided me any modems. They charged me for "Equipment Deposit" - $25. What is it??? So I have one question. Am I just lucky, or this is just habitual for Cox? Is anyone had similar experience with Cox?2.8KViews0likes2CommentsLess the 30mbps on Premier
I have the premier plan & I'm only seeing speeds at around 30mbps & less.. & thats currently throughout the whole day which isn't bad but definitely not what I'm paying for taking into account i have several devices going..i was getting around 100mbps+ about 2 months ago but its dropped simnifically. i honestly don't know if its due to the changes cox is making but its ridiculous.. Why pay for an expensive service and I'm not getting what i pay for..Sounds like a hustle to me.. If its not resolved i will unfortunately be forced to move on to a different internet provider. Its been going on way to long and there seems to be no end to the horrific time I'm facing with this.. & no i don't want to email you guys because i already tried that & all i get was generic answers.. My Modem is currently a Surfboard SB61802.4KViews0likes2CommentsCox webmail
Why is Cox allowing scammers and malware authors to advertise on the webmail portal? Every other time I log in, there is a fake windows error message as the main banner ad saying "Low Disk space", "You are running very low on disk space. To free space you need to repair your Windows Errors". Then it has a button to "Repair Windows Errors". The link will take you to a scam site called "http://www.driverupdate.net". Cox should really filter the ads they allow in their banners as this is pretty bad for an ISP to allow. And NO, it is NOT coming from my PC, the Cox webmaster will know EXACTLY where these are coming from simply by looking at the source code.2.4KViews0likes2CommentsWarning about $5 Tier Upgrade Promo
I'm not the first to write about this... I read another post of a complaint from another customer who was swindled by a Cox upgrade offer. This is clearly written intentionally deceptive. I was offered (in big bold letters) " FREE" tier upgrade from essential to preferred service. It even explicitly stated $0.00 upfront and $0.00 /month ! This offer and order confirmation number appeared in my account but has since been removed. When I call in to confirm the status of the free upgrade, no one knows what I'm talking about, and instead want me to upgrade from paying $35/mo to $52/mo "...this is a great deal", I'm told. I never intended to upgrade in the first place, until this offer appeared on my screen. I thought, after reading the confusing fine print, that "the catch" (because there is always a catch) was that instead of "FREE" as it appeared to be, the increase would cost me $5/mo in additional fees.... $5 DOES NOT EQUAL FREE, By the way. But i figured, okay why not? $5 extra for increase from 5mbps to 25mbps was worth it. BUT NOOO, it aparently means something alltogether different. The cost of the upgrade is actually to pay an increased rate of $50/month (not actually a deal, this is what they already offer on their site to anyone) But instead of charging me $15 extra to open the bandwidth (which I'm sure is just a click of a button) they will only charge me $5 extra to increase my speed and my rate! There is a reason why we switched from COX to DirecTV/AT&T Uverse... unfortunately, I'll have to deal with these deceptive games as UVerse speeds in my area are capped at less than 3mbps (That's another whole story ... they were willing to charge me for 12mbps until i caught on that the distance from our house to their station was too far to reach those speeds) Cox is not "your friend in the digital age" they are the lesser of two evils. They can be allied with to get the internet you want because you have no other choice... but as long as you know what kind of scheming you're getting yourself into.15KViews0likes3Comments
