Unexplained Sudden Seriously High Data Usage

Right about the same time I received a letter from Cox indicating the 1TB data cap, my daily data usage suddenly skyrocketed from about 5G per day for the past year, to 40-70G per day! We haven't changed any habits or added any devices or people. We don't live close enough for any neighbors to scam off our wifi .Cox support can't help me, but I'm about to be charged $20 PER DAY for the next 9 days of my billing cycle unless I shut everything off completely (since we have NO IDEA WHERE ON EARTH we could be using that much data. Its borderline impossible. I would have to stream 24 hours straight of HD Netflix to use 70G! I feel like Cox is sandbagging the data tracker. The timing is pretty convenient !

It might be useful to try disconnecting devices from your Internet one by one then monitoring your usage for change to see if the pattern can be attributed to any particular device.

I've found the same issue.  Cox, you need to figure this out on your end.  What exactly is it that you are measuring now?  I found our household was using 300GB or slightly more last year.  Then I upped our internet speed so our monthly bandwidth would be 700GB.  We hovered under that for several months. Then Cox announces that every plan no matter the speed you are paying for, gets 1TB per month Bandwidth.  Now this month our usage skyrockets above that 1TB.  Why?  Our usage hasn't changed either.  What are you doing COX?  What is your measurment?  Are suddenly measuring both upload and download as a total for the bandwidth usage whereas before you were only measuring download bandwidth?  What gives?  I'd like to know how your measurements have changed since you announced you'd be charging for overages.

Data usage has always been measures as a combined upload/download sum. Are you by chance participating in any distributed computing programs such as SETI at home?
