Slow connection speed
Switched back to Cox on 8/4. Paying for 300mbps, but have yet to get above 94 down and 32 up. I can live with the 32 up all day long and don't expect any more. The 94 is unacceptable. I switched from the competitor in Vegas that promised 100 and delivered 98 consistently. When I call, I am told that it takes the servers a couple of days to reset after a new account is established. This makes no sense to me as the server and my modem communicate at whatever speed they are directed to do so. Neither machine has to think about it for a couple of days... Is there not something that can be done? My particulars are: Arris Touchstone Telephony TG2472 Modem Desktop is direct wired while everything else is run through an ASUS AC5300 Tri-band Router. The wifi on the modem is turned off in that it cannot handle the number of IP address that I need served under HDCP. I seem to have hit a wall on my internet upgrade. I've upgraded from the SurfBoard 6141 to the 6190, but I am unsure of what else I have to do in order to obtain the 300/30 speeds advertised. The speeds are identical to the 6141 after contacting tech support to update. My last tech interaction told me that I did not have the right Docsis type for the speeds, but I know that isn't the case. It is a 32 x 8 channel Docsis 3. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!1.9KViews0likes2Commentsultimate speed gimped!!!!
went from premier to ultimate in my area 23518 and instead of the 200mbps I'm paying for it actually is doing a bit worse from my old 100 mbps on my premier plan, before upgrading I had a cisco DPC3010 and now with the ultimate plan I have the arris surfboard SB6183 cable modem. speeds have never broken 90 let along the 200 mbps I require for my high speed life. so either I can get this resolved or just downgrade and save the cash cause at that point my speed will be faster. http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/51410225181.7KViews0likes1CommentSpeed of internet in RI
I have the premier package, which is advertised as 100 download, yet I can't get past 63 on a wired computer. The wireless is just beyond useful some days. I'm not sure why I am paying all of this money, when I am constantly losing the connection or it is so slow, that I can't even get a movie to stream. Anyone have any thoughts!1.8KViews0likes2CommentsSlow Download Speeds
Using a Netgear N450 CG3000Dv2 with Preferred Internet Service which can go up to 50 Mbps down. However, If I download anything the peak I reach is just above 7Mbps. I use a wired connection as well. Is this normal or can something be done to increase down speeds?1.9KViews0likes1CommentSlow & Laggy on Ultimate service at 89130
For about three weeks I've been experiencing a bad connection. Originally it was slow with lots of lag in games and buffering when I watched streaming. I contacted Cox via phone support and after a few reboots of my modem the tech said that they could no longer see it on the network. I've since then replaced the modem and still experiencing the problem with a new modem (Motorola SB6183). Tech one that was sent out was unable to fix issue, even trying a modem from the truck and it not working correctly. He left for the next job and when he returned it seemed to work directly connected to my PC. After he left I setup my network connecting it to my router (Asus RT-N66U). I didn't notice any speed slowdowns for a few days. On the second service call the second tech diagnosed it as my router since directly connected its fine, but on my network its not working. I replaced the router with a Asus RT-AC88U. Now about three weeks later, It's still just as bad as it was when I first called. I've also change out Ethernet cable from router to modem and still no change. So as I mentioned in the title I am not getting the "108 Mbps and 11 Mbps" that the cox speed test is showing. I have a Motorola surfboard sbg6782-ac so I don't believe that the modem/router is the problem. You may wonder how I know I'm not getting the speed that I am PAYING for and that is because of this site testmy.net. It has many explanations of why certain internet tests aren't completely true. Secondly I have been trying to stream on Twitch.tv and the quality is based off of upload and computer hardware. When doing this you need to set a max bit rate setting which is based off of your upload, and if I were to go by what cox is saying, 10Mbps, I should be able to put that setting on the max. But guess what, I can't. It can only work when the setting is at 1000kb/s which means I am only getting about 1Mbps - 1.5Mbps. Also if you use the speed test that I posted above you will see that(might not be for all) your download is about half of what the cox speed test says. While yes there is some variables that will make it so that you don't get 100% of what you pay, 50% seems a little ridiculous. So I am posting to see if others might have this problem and have found a solution or if cox will hopefully give me what I am paying for. Oh and I have hard wired to my router/modem.14KViews0likes15CommentsUpgraded to internet Premier but seeing weird speeds
Location: Irvine, Ca I recently upgraded to Internet Premier (100mbit down / 10mbit up). I used to have the next lower pkg, internet preferred which is 50/5 (upload actually isn't listed on the site). I have a Surfboard 6190, and i have 24 bonded download channels (max for Cox) and the apparent max 4 uplink. Support over the phone said signal strength was good when they were provisioning the modem. The weirdness is that i'm seeing the advertised speed for the Premier plan for uplink but i'm only seeing the Internet Preferred speed (50mbit) for the downlink (using multiple methods including the speed test on the Cox site, both wired and wireless). It's almost as if the modem wasn't provisioned correctly for the Internet Premier plan. It definitely looks like an artificial limit i'm hitting and it's just more than odd that it's stopping at my previous plan's download speed limit. I was planning on calling support after work today but I read how much back and forth another customer had with a problem that sounds like it might be the same issue as mine and so i was hoping someone here could help or let me know what to tell support so they can verify the modem is getting the correct config for both the downlink and uplink speeds (or whatever else to double check). other guy's post - issue resolved after Cox support apparently fixed something on their end even though initial support showed no issues. http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/8523.aspx1.9KViews0likes2CommentsDownload and Upload Speed Discrepancy
I purchase premier internet service from Cox; as a consequence, I expect a download speed of about 100 Mbps. A few minutes ago I ran a speed test using a test provided on the Cox website. Download speed was reported to be 95 Mbps; upload speed was reported to be 15 Mbps. That would appear to be good enough, and not worth quibbling about, but I then ran a speed test using a test provided on-line by the Geek Squad. The Geek Squad tester reported a download speed of 30.38 Mbps and an upload speed of 23.44 Mbps. Frankly, I'm prone to trust the Geek Squad test since they're not affiliated with any ISP, and would have no reason that I know of to report biased results. My experience tells me that self-tests and self-evaluations are so unreliable and biased, I wonder why anyone bothers. I suggest Cox employ a truly independent tester to provide speed tests via their website, and advertise that they are truly independent. I'd be interested in seeing your comments on the subject. I've begun to look into this matter because Cox download speeds have been very erratic for the past few months, especially during the day. For example, on-demand movies offered by DIRECT-TV often won't play, because they pause to buffer, because the Cox internet download speed is too slow; and a member of my household gets rather understandably anxious when the internet speed slows to a crawl while taking a timed, on-line, college exam.2.3KViews0likes1Comment
