Sending Traceroute
I am having issues with a website not showing up in a browser that maybe blocked by COX's Firewall. I have a cox panoramic router. I want to switch to Open DNS as my DNS servers for security reasons, as I am seeing frequent attacks on the router that I have been able to trace back as originating from the ISP DNS servers. OpenDNS is used as a parental control and requires me to change my DNS servers. I logged into my router and they are currently set to, Primary DNS Server (IPv4):68.105.28.11 Secondary DNS Server (IPv4):68.105.29.11 But there is no visible option to changes these inside the Panoramic control panel. There is an issue with the Cox Panoramic Router/Modem and YouTube. I can't tell if there's a firewall setting or something I'm missing. YouTube videos buffer while using the Cox Arris TG1682G Panoramic Gateway. I thought at first that Cox may be throttling YouTube so I got the FCC involved. I still suspect it, but haven't been able to prove it. However, when I put the Panoramic Modem/Router in Bridged Mode, and connect my own router to it, YouTube doesn't buffer and videos load instantly. Keep in mind that while using the Modem/Router combo in it's normal Routed/w NAT mode; that speeds were great overall. So it isn't a speed issue. It's YouTube in particular and videos taking 5-10 seconds to buffer before playing, only on Cox's network. This was tested on several different computers, and mobile phones with the same results. I've changed DNS servers to use non Cox DNS, played in the router settings, turned off TG1682G firewall, etc. I can't think of anything else that could be causing this except Cox doing some sort of traffic shaping/prioritization, or throttling with YouTube coming from their device, or a TG1682G device setting. Results were intermittent at times, meaning a few times videos would load instantly. That lead me to believe that it wasn't necessarily throttling, but traffic shaping/prioritization instead. Cox has denied those claims as well. The only constant in all of this is the Cox Arris Panoramic Gateway.7.3KViews0likes6CommentsArris Modem Widespread Malware Attack DNS posioning!!
There is definitely something going on with internet service. Apparently Arris Modem/Router has a critical backdoor that hasn't been patched. Last month my entire network was compromised. DNS traffic was being redirected to malcious servers. This was very well done, I think I may have been infected for at least 2 months. The attack was stealth. Symptoms Empty folders Timestamp manipulation Hides malicious applications, in random folders, and alters timestamp to make it hard to detect early on. Controls the clicks of computer mouse. Keylogger Downloads fake certificates Task manager had tons of .exe processors Updates legit software with malicious script Screenshots, video capture. System restore or installing Windows 10 will try and make it look like a fresh install but really it's fake, made to look just like the real thing. Then came the botnet activity and, Denial of Service, and then my router was destroyed. Even after I unplugged my computer from the network, they were still able have some control. Any devices that were conected to the network will be affected Internet would disconnect Hacker has replaced my network connection with different network that was redirecting my connection to hacker server. So I was given a new router new IP address, and I tested it on a different computer that was unaffected and I monitored for about a week. Then I start noticing suspicious activity Devices Managment installed 10 different type of Network adapters. Then IP address change and DNS traffic was being spoofed again. Cox Customer Service and Technicians don't see a problem. According to them the routers are very secured and there isn't a backdoor lol. There is an entire article about Arris routers. NOTE: Please do not lock this forum thread unless a valid solution has been proposed. If this thread is locked without a solution or reason as to why the thread is locked, I will consider COX will not fix this issue. Problem All invalid hostnames that are forwarded through my Cox router resolve to the ip address: 92.242.140.2instead of properly returning a NXDOMAINDNS response. Troubleshooting I have changed both the IPv4 and IPv6 DNS server settings so that none of my server lookups should be contacting COX DNS servers. I have opted out of Enhanced Error Results from the internet tools section of my account settings page I have rebooted my router after applying the settings from #1 and opting out from #2 I am testing DNS resolution outside of any browser (using nslookup and ping) The tooling from #4 shows that the ip address resolution is coming from 2001:578:3f::30which is a COX owned DNS server, and is nowhere in my router configuration (I have overridden all IPv4 and IPv6 dns server addresses in #1). Finally, ifI route all of my traffic through a VPN,I do not encounter this issue, which leads me to believe there is something explicitly in the router software/firmware which is the source of this behavior. Conclusion Despite changing my DNS settings and opting out of enhance error results, I am still seeing incorrect DNS results returned by a COX server that my router is not set up to use. This is not a browser issue. I am seeing incorrect behavior outside and and inside of any browser. I have had consistent outages for at least 2 months, some last a few minutes some last for days. I've gone through all of the troubleshooting suggestions. I've even replaced all of my cords, checked to make sure my modem & router are compliant and even bought a new computer last week. Everything is set up for internet settings to be assigned automatically but it doesn't assign a DNS address. I've even taken note of the DNS address the 2 minutes my internet is up and tried to put it in manually but that's not working either. I work 60hrs/wk, some of it from home and this is REALLY a problem for both time consumption and work. Help!944Views0likes0Comments
