According to the Tier 3 guy the routers software had to be borked not allowing any ports to be opened even when he had me unplug it for 10 minutes and reset it back to factory default. Replacing the already replaced router solved the problem. The defective router worked everywhere else except those few ports I needed. Never trust a refurbished unit to be working. Re: Had to replace the gateway. Well thought I would chime back in and finish this..... After talking with Cox Tier 1 a nice young lady setup two networks for 2.4 and 5 which satisfied my printer and roomba but didn't help opening closed ports on my other devices. I was then moved to Tier 2 for an hour then sent to Tier 3. Tier 3 guy was didn't understand the closed ports and simply said the gateway has to be messed up. He went on to say that all the routers in the Cox store are refurbished units and the chance of getting a new one is remote. So off to the store I went for another one and told them the story and I wanted one that works. After getting it home and hooked up devices started coming on line.... Voila. The bad is that everything i had setup needed resetting again. Thanks and have a jolly good day. Re: Had to replace the gateway. If the Panoramic no longer allows you to have 2 separate wireless networks, the Panoramic is doing you no good. Get rid of it. The COX app does give you the option of choosing 2 separate wireless networks but warns against doing so. As you go further it warns you again that you could mess things up so I backed off from doing so. I'm calling cox tommorrow because I want two separate networks. Re: Had to replace the gateway. Makes no sense to me either and I've forgotten what the error message explicitly said but it does come back with a message that it does not see 2.4. I have a security camera that also needs 2.4 and it connected successfully and a Dell desktop that connected to 5 so both are available. Re: Had to replace the gateway. Yes. Seems about 100 times. I did a chat with Cox today and he gave me a number to call since I'm a preferred customer whatever that means. Im calling tommorrow. Ill let you know. Re: Had to replace the gateway. The printer (HP m201dw pro) tries to connect to the COX Panoramic router but fails with a message that states "Router must be 2.4g and not 5." I know of no way to tell the router to switch to 2.4. The App does not want you to use separate 2.4 and 5 but rather let it do the sorting. Had to replace the gateway. Now my HP 205 prnter wont connect because its looking for 2.4ghz and it says it only sees 5. Re: Port Forwarding After talking with support techs for two hours who couldn't help and with one tech so frustrated he said I should just buy my own equipment because COX will eventually change it again, I poked around and found it myself. Hopefully it's there for you as it is for me. Login to your Gateway as normal, click on the ADVANCED tab then WIFI.COX.COM, click on the NETWORK tab, Under NETWORK DEVICES click on the GATEWAY box, Scroll to the bottom and under MORE, click ADVANCED SETTINGS, then PORT FORWARDING. This was supposed to make it easier for the novice to set up ports, totally ignoring the people like me who can set up their own ports. They failed. Question for you guru's I'm 80 years old and my son (in another part of the state) has access to my security cameras when he wants to check up. With this new software update he can no longer connect to those security cameras and I can no longer assign or see my cameras port numbers anymore. So.... If I buy my own gateway and router will I still be under COX software restrictions or will I be free of it? All my ports are not on the restricted list. Thanks. Port Forwarding Yes. Another Port Forwarding post. I lost the ability to access my security camera from outside my home (WAN) because my IP Camera Viewer needs a port number. I can't believe COX disconnected my security cameras during this pandemic. Anyone have a work around?
