ContributionsMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Modem Firmware Question Unfortunate. Most cable modems have been sitting in a box for at least a year and are way out of date by the time you get them. Same with almost any computer equipment you buy. Re: Modem Firmware Question Just to clarify here, if I buy a cable modem, and I want to download the latest firmware and install it before I ask Cox to allow it to connect to their network, that's not allowed? I have to connect the modem as is out of the box, and hope that Cox has the current firmware and will push it? Re: Does "bridge mode" mean turn off wifi and just be a cable modem connected via uplink to a router? Doesn't work. Connection is "limited", meaning no internet. Re: Cannot connect Netgear C6250 (retail purchased, not Cox owned) Netgear reviews on Amazon are more than half fake reviews, and the real ratings for their equipment tends to hover around 1-2 stars. If it's not too late, you might want to take it back and get a Motorola or an Arris. Re: Does "bridge mode" mean turn off wifi and just be a cable modem connected via uplink to a router? Does this mean you have to change the subnet mask from 255.255.255.0 to 255.255.0.0? Re: Does "bridge mode" mean turn off wifi and just be a cable modem connected via uplink to a router? Ah, it changes its IP! That means I have to tell the router a different default gateway, which is probably why I couldn't get a connection. But I'm correct about bridge mode, right? It just shuts down DHCP and wifi on the 4141 and turns it into a plain cable modem with one ethernet port that conects to the WAN port on the router? Does "bridge mode" mean turn off wifi and just be a cable modem connected via uplink to a router? Trying to configure my home network. I set up the router, connected its uplink to the 4141 and put the 4141 in bridge mode. The 4141 won't provide an internet connection. Re: Has anyone succeeded in using a router with "bridge mode" on the Cox modem, to get around the unreasonable 10 device limit? If I can't solve this, I'm going to have to cancel all my services and go to AT&T. Cox has started enforcing a 10 device limit on my account. It's caused many problems. I installed a router and put the 4141 in bridge mode, but that didn't work. A Cox tech told me that if I upgraded to Gigablast, there would be no device limit, so I did that, but that did not work either. Most of my devices are hard wired, not wifi. Wireless: 3 laptops, 3 phones, EVSE, garage door opener, tablet Wired: server, printer, stereo, game console, 4 DVD players, 3 internet ready TV sets, slave router Has anyone succeeded in using a router with "bridge mode" on the Cox modem, to get around the unreasonable 10 device limit? I've spent many hours and dollars trying to get around this issue, which Cox denied creating for several weeks, blaming my equipment. They even came here, and the tech replaced my premium quality splitters with cheap ones, and kept mine. And I swapped the 2472 for a 4141, still didn't work. This is the ago of IoT. NOBODY has less than 10 internet-capable devices in their home. Re: TV guide went insane about 2 months ago - picks its own favorites, won't stay on HD, goes to "trending" by itself. Update: it froze - again - so I rebooted it. It's been trying to reboot for half an hour, just keeps saying "Welcome" and "Connecting to your entertainment experience"...now it's had error RDK-03030....
