Remote doesn't communicate with cable box

My remote will not work with the cable box, but it will change the volume on the TV. I take the remote to the bedroom and it controls both the TV and cable box. I bring the remote from the bedroom into the living room and it won't control the cable box, but controls the volume on the TV. I called Cox and they sent a technician who changed out the box and it did the same thing. We put back my original cable box. The technician found that if we turned the cable box away from the TV, that it now works. It seems that the TV interrupts the signal to the box. The crazy thing is that I have had this set up for a few months and yesterday was the first time we have had this problem. What is the solution? I do not want to leave the box sitting sideways on my TV stand.

Go into the TV's video settings. Find a setting for "automatic backlight level" or similar. Some plasma or LED backlit TVs will interfere with the infrared remote signals. Some people have had success putting a strip of scotch tape or a Post-It note in front of the IR sensor of the STB. What TV make/model and what STB are you using?

I have a LG model 47LD450-UA. It is a LCD TV. The STB that I have is the CISCO 9865HDC. I found the backlight option in the menu but it would not highlight because of the energy saving setting. Everything I changed would not make that setting highlight-able. I appreciate your help. Thank you

    A. Turn OFF the energy saver option. This might let you turn OFF the automatic backlight circuit. I'll read through the manual when I get a chance.

    B. Try the tape/Post-It note fix.
