how to determine a receiver's model number

I come here with the notion that if I'm having an issue of any kind I can't be the only one. Take for instance the brevity of the display of closed captioning---I've read more than a few complaints (like the ones I have) but not as of yet any solutions. With almost every query the response is the same: "Are you having this issue on all TVs or just one? Can you verify the receiver models you have and the type and manufacture of the TVs?" It's at this point where all further forum discussion ends.

Well, my question for today is: I've tried searching most every logical, intuitive area of every on-screen menu-----Where in any of the on-screen settings windows would I find listed the model number of the receiver I'm using?

  • It's physically on the receiver. Cisco/SA or Motorola? With Cisco, it is sometime on the left just above the ON/OFF button (4742HDC, etc.), or on the upper right corner of the STB (4642HDC, etc.) Also with Cisco/SA, the model number will be on a label either on the back or bottom of the unit.

Thanks for the prompt, pertinent reply, Domino.

I must admit that with as technically sophisticated as home entertainment has become it's kind of counter-intuitive to have to physically look at a device to determine its model number; one would presume that much like plugging in a periferal (like an external drive or printer), a cable box would be able to recognize its own identification and display it on a screen for easier viewing, but presumably that's how Cox rolls.

All of my home entertainment equipment has the make/model number on the front panel of the unit.

2 Sony CD players, 1 Marantz CD player, 1 Sony ES receiver, 1 Panasonic BD player, 1 Sony DVD player, 3 Mitsubishi VCRs, 1 Sony VCR, 1 Cisco DVR, 1 Uniden satellite receiver, 1 STS satellite receiver, Samsung computer monitor, 1 Brother laser printer.

But, thanks for the chuckle with "...it's kind of counter-intuitive to have to physically look at a device to determine its model number..."
